I'm applying to USD (University of San Diego) for Fall 2008. Anyone else? They have a great, but crazy competitive, MEPN program.
So I'm officially going to USD! I just emailed Dr. Hunter. I can't wait to start...although I'm a little nervous about my cross-country trip (I currently live in Boston). Anyone else out there moving from far away to go to USD?
Hey Jazzy29,
I'm not traveling across country but I am originally from Virginia! I moved out to Indiana for college and went to LA for my master's at ucla... now I'm going south for SD so I know how crazy it is moving-wise! I am sooo tired of packing up my stuff and leaving and unpacking and packing again! Have you started to look for housing yet?
I sent in my $500 deposit so I am officially going to USD also. :w00t:I love this chat site because right now I have no idea who you are yet in 5 months some of you will be my future study buddies! It's nice to hear from you too NurseJewels, this has been a big decision so it's great to hear such nice things about the program from someone who is currently in it.
Hermosa, you're in SF area so this won't sound too strange, I visualized getting an acceptance letter from USD for a year. Even when I doubted myself for mediocre GRE scores or doubted that I was willing to spend so much $ on a program. So when the letter came to me I had visualized being accepted so many times that I already knew I was accepted before I opened the letter. Can't hurt to try that method right?
So is anyone planning to commute from LA? To stay in SD half of the week and stay in LA the other half of the week?
Jazzy29, I received a letter in the mail with a deposit slip to fill out from Stephen Pultz, Director of Admissions. I filled out the info on the slip a mailed it back to USD with a $500 check. The letter says to return this by 5pm on April 1, 2008 and if they do not receive the deposit by this date that they assume you have made other plans and will offer enrollment to another applicant. The $500 is applied to our tuition and they automatically enroll you in your courses.
That gives you a week to solve this mystery. I'd call Dr. Hunter or Mr. Pultz. This letter also says to read the material in the Graduate Bulletin and the Hahn School of Nursing MEPN handbook which can be found on the university web site. There might be more information on there as well. I haven't had a chance to look at any of that. Hope this helps.
No problem, that was a little scary. Glad that you have it all squared away.
Reminder to all that financial aid is due by April 1st too.
Has anyone heard what our scedules will be for the August Health Assesment course? All that I have seen is that it starts August 4th. I'm trying to book some important events that month...before we are fully overwhelmed with school.
Anyone looking for a roommate for USD? I have found a wonderful 2 br/1 ba right there in Mission Valley/USD near the entrance for $1450/mo with a move in special of $1200... panoramic views and 2 parking spaces, washer and dryer included in unit!! oh and pets are OK! hardwood floors, new appliances and newly renovated! rent includes water!
I haven't signed yet and want to visit in a few weeks, but I def need a roommate!

Well, as I said, I didn't get in but I was asked to interview. They told us that there had been about 350-400 applicants (if I remember correctly), 100 were asked to interview for 50 spots. They said that last year they drilled down on the wait-list 20 people. Therefore, approximately 70% of those interviewed eventually got an acceptance letter.
I would assume that your essay is important but the nice thing about USD and other private schools is that they look at the WHOLE person and how they fit into the program... not just at the grades and scores. While public schools are required to inform you of where on the wait-list you are, most private schools - including USD, will not disclose that info. I think that allows them some freedom in their criteria for acceptance. I don't remember them telling us an average GPA or scores etc and I think it's for that reason - depending on essays, interviews, recommendations the GPA's and scores can really vary and an average would be scewed.
USD is an incredible program so I would take a chance and apply!!!!
