I have found other threads for previous programs very helpful so I thought I would start one for the new program so that we can talk about it.
So I applied the first day apps opened & am in the process of preparing to send my supplementary stuff. In the personal statement it asks to list your two units of interest and why. I called to ask them if they wanted a general response (like 'med/surg') or to be more specific (like 'med/surg ortho'). They said to be specific. My problem is I don't know all the units. Does anyone know the different units that may (or may not) be hiring new grads?
Also, do you think it would be too far-fetched to choose the ER as one of my units of choice? I ask this because in my job search I have learned that ER new grad positions are extremely competitive & often times the positions available are given to internal applicants only or people with some other kind of "in." All my training, experience, and certifications that I have acquired have been in preparation for ER nursing... So I believe that I am qualified, but I don't want to shoot for something that is impossible & miss out on a position in a less competitive unit.
What do you think?
I interviewed on Friday, and got an email that evening, around 6:30pm from Tania Z. about the "meet and greet" for the "CVTICU/Cardiac Fast Track ICU STAFF". I wasn't expecting that because Tania did mention to me that they wouldn't call us back for another 2-3 weeks (like someone mentioned earlier), so I'm a little confused as well. I haven't replied to her email yet, but it's scheduled for Dec. 20 (monday) at 8:30am.
Hey ... I also was interviewed for Cardiac ICU but have not received a follow-up. What do you mean you're out of the game? I feel so confused!?
I didn't get a rejection letter yet, but I also didn't get an e-mail for the meet and greet, so I'm assuming that that means that I didn't get picked. It's weird because as far as I remember, last December, they had a brunch for everyone who were going to be interviewed. I guess now, they'll only have it for those who are moving forward (which from what I understand from the unit manager was another interview with some of the unit staff. I could be wrong though). I'm confused though because from what I understand, they'll be calling people until the end of December to early January. So don't lose hope yet.
I don't know. The interviewers were really nice, but I had a really bad vibe during my interview. It felt exactly like how it did on my last interview, so I'm not keeping my hopes up.

When she said "meet and greet", do you know if it's just going to be you or if there'll be other candidates there? Because it could be that second "interview" that the manager told me about.
Btw, congratulations! You're moving forward. :)
Here is a copy of the email -- since I really don't know how to answer your questions (I have so many questions myself), if you didn't get it, this is simply what it said:
"Greetings to All,
It was a great pleasure meeting everyone this week. You are such awesome candidates and we would love to have you back to meet the staff. This will be the venue for the key leaders of the unit have a meet and greet with you. It will not be a formal panel but a “getting to know you” type atmosphere. Let me know if you can make it…try your best.
Location: USC University Hospital (meet in lobby)
Date: December 20, 2010
Time: 08:30 a.m.
Hope to see you there! Have a great weekend.
Thank you,
[T.Z.]"
Just to add, I replied to the email and T. Z. responded just now (from her iPhone, I truly hope I didn't wake her up--oh my goodness.. ) and she said:
"Sent at 1:03 AM
Yes this is the call back. Glad u can join on the short notice.
Sent from Tania's iPhone"

I am personally shocked at how quickly they made their decisions... As you guys said earlier, we were told it would take 2-3 weeks, and the managers would be the ones essentially making the final decisions. The strange thing is that 2 minutes into my interview, the manager had to step out because she was paged...and I never saw her again after that. I thought this would definitely hurt me somehow because if she wasn't even there to really speak with me, she likely wouldn't even consider me..
Anyway, don't take my word for it--I really encourage you to call them yourselves and find out what's going on. I've just been sharing my experience, and I'm sure many others have questions so please don't simply go off of this information. And just a reminder, this info is regarding CVTICU so if you applied to other units, they may have something else going on.
Good luck to everyone :nurse:
Well thank you VanessaRN for that infomation. Congratulations to you, and I hope that myself (and the others who have had CTICU interviews and did not receive the email) may receive better news than what we are currently thinking might be our status with USC. I guess there is always hope until we are told that we were not selected for a position.
I TRULY hope there is more good news going around soon. And @QRN22 you are right!! Don't let go of that hope; stay positive because we really don't know the outcome until they contact everyone. Maybe they just have a strange way of doing it--we never know. @QRN22, @sdnewgradnurse, @monkeysarecute (& anyone else who mentioned it) thank you for the kind words; keep an ear on your phone and eye on your email, haha. Hopefully you'll hear something wonderful soon :heartbeat. Best wishes & good luck to everyone!

Thank you, trying my best to stay positive. Had a little breakdown last night, but there's always hope. Best of luck to you! :) & Happy Holidays!

Thanks, VanessaRN. I wish there's still hope for me, but I already know for sure that I didn't get it. However, I do wish you luck for tomorrow. You seem like you're a really nice person. I hope you get the job! :)

Yes I interviewed Friday and have not heard anything either way yet (it was only yesterday) though. @VanessaRN which day did you interview?
