I have found other threads for previous programs very helpful so I thought I would start one for the new program so that we can talk about it.
So I applied the first day apps opened & am in the process of preparing to send my supplementary stuff. In the personal statement it asks to list your two units of interest and why. I called to ask them if they wanted a general response (like 'med/surg') or to be more specific (like 'med/surg ortho'). They said to be specific. My problem is I don't know all the units. Does anyone know the different units that may (or may not) be hiring new grads?
Also, do you think it would be too far-fetched to choose the ER as one of my units of choice? I ask this because in my job search I have learned that ER new grad positions are extremely competitive & often times the positions available are given to internal applicants only or people with some other kind of "in." All my training, experience, and certifications that I have acquired have been in preparation for ER nursing... So I believe that I am qualified, but I don't want to shoot for something that is impossible & miss out on a position in a less competitive unit.
What do you think?
Just an update, of the 19 candidates (CVTICU) interviewed, 8 were called back for the "meet & greet" and 4 will be extended job offers hopefully by early January 2011. I'm not sure what's going on with the other units though. The staff said how they wish they could hire more, but the budget just isn't enough. Since 47 were hired on the last cohort (and 300 nurses total this/last year), there really isn't enough $ and need for a large volume of nurses (and new grads) this time around. "Sucky" news, I know... but good luck to everyone who is currently being considered for USC and for those who are pursuing their job search elsewhere! No matter how tough it gets...don't let it ruin your holiday season. As important as a job is, ultimately your family and friends are far more important... :heartbeat

Thanks for the update and encouragement! Good luck to you, and happy holidays!
@[color=deepskyblue]rn,bsn,phn --- i did not apply to sicu but this is what another user ([color=deepskyblue]pinky2010) said earlier in this thread:
i applied for sicu and according to the email, it looks like they're interviewing 5 others and taking 1. i'm super anxious and nervous!
has anyone had their interview yet?
Ooo im sorry i read wrong haha. have you gotten any word from your unit?
@RN, BSN, PHN: No I haven't heard anything yet. Did you apply for SICU? I've been eagerly waiting since we were already supposed to have received some sort of acceptance letter according to their 12/22 timeline of letters being sent out. Did you interview on the 15th?

This is all very strange. Joy also mentioned to me that they would contact people in 2-3 weeks. However, when I look at the timeline for what happens when, it says that they will send out the letters of acceptance on Dec. 22nd and they need the letters signed by Jan. 7th. So, none of this makes any sense.
On another note, congrats to VanessaRN! I wish you the best of luck.
I hope we will all find out what's going on soon. I kind of wish they would send me a rejection email if they are not considering me so that I can spend my Christmas and New Years with peace of mind.
