I have found other threads for previous programs very helpful so I thought I would start one for the new program so that we can talk about it.
So I applied the first day apps opened & am in the process of preparing to send my supplementary stuff. In the personal statement it asks to list your two units of interest and why. I called to ask them if they wanted a general response (like 'med/surg') or to be more specific (like 'med/surg ortho'). They said to be specific. My problem is I don't know all the units. Does anyone know the different units that may (or may not) be hiring new grads?
Also, do you think it would be too far-fetched to choose the ER as one of my units of choice? I ask this because in my job search I have learned that ER new grad positions are extremely competitive & often times the positions available are given to internal applicants only or people with some other kind of "in." All my training, experience, and certifications that I have acquired have been in preparation for ER nursing... So I believe that I am qualified, but I don't want to shoot for something that is impossible & miss out on a position in a less competitive unit.
What do you think?
@RN, BSN, PHN: Yes, only 1 on SICU.During your interview, was the unit manager from Neuro ICU present? From the information I got, we were interviewing for SICU and Neuro ICU, and USC has 1 position for SICU and 4 for Neuro ICU. How do you think your interview went?
Hey Pinky,
The manager from neuro ICU was not present during my interview. From whom did you get the information from that we were interviewing for both units? Were you offered either unit?
I felt my interview went fairly well. They were telling me that every other interview somehow became conversations and that they would all go into tangents. How was yours?
Hey Pinky,During my interview ---- had to leave. But the rest of the panel was there until the end. From whom did you get the information from that we were interviewing for both units? Were you offered either unit?

@RN, BSN, PHN: --- told me when I asked her outside. ---- was the unit manager from Neuro ICU and ---------- from SICU. I havent heard back from them. I was super nervous about the interview, but it wasnt terrible. Everyone was friendly. Still waiting for them to contact me. Did you hear from them?
Aahh! I read that email like three times last night! When are they going to call?? Today? Yesterday ? So intense!!
Seriously, I've checked my phone a million times today. I wish they were more specific with details on when they will call. Hear anything yet? I'm getting more and more nervous.
Happy New Year to everyone,I also received an e-mail saying that the HR will call selected candidates. So, did anybody receive the phone call yet????
@juliehan: i received the same email this Monday. I haven't heard anything from them yet. Which unit did you apply for? Good luck and I hope we get a call offering us the position.
Hello Pinky 2010,Thanks so much for your reply. I also received that e-mail last Monday. I applied for Med Surg unit, what about you? Perhaps some people already received the calls. Take a good care.
@juliehan: I applied for SICU. Still haven't heard anything yet. This is nerve-wracking! Do you know how many people they are looking to hire for Med Surg?
