USC New Grad Program 2011

U.S.A. California

I have found other threads for previous programs very helpful so I thought I would start one for the new program so that we can talk about it.

So I applied the first day apps opened & am in the process of preparing to send my supplementary stuff. In the personal statement it asks to list your two units of interest and why. I called to ask them if they wanted a general response (like 'med/surg') or to be more specific (like 'med/surg ortho'). They said to be specific. My problem is I don't know all the units. Does anyone know the different units that may (or may not) be hiring new grads?

Also, do you think it would be too far-fetched to choose the ER as one of my units of choice? I ask this because in my job search I have learned that ER new grad positions are extremely competitive & often times the positions available are given to internal applicants only or people with some other kind of "in." All my training, experience, and certifications that I have acquired have been in preparation for ER nursing... So I believe that I am qualified, but I don't want to shoot for something that is impossible & miss out on a position in a less competitive unit.

What do you think?

Anything? Anyone?.. man! what is taking so long for them to let us know our status? at this point, I think a rejection email would even be relieving. haha

So an update for all that are waiting to hear- I just got called and offered a position at USC. I did not accept it because I took a position last week at UCLA, for many reasons including the fact that I had not heard anything from USC.

My whole experience with them has been odd- I did not originally get the email that most of you received for the "call back" for the second "meet the managers" interview. Later that Mon night after most of you went to the unit, I got called saying my name was mistakenly left off the list and I was supposed to be there that day for the second round. Weird. Anyway, I went later that week to meet the managers, enjoyed the unit and staff, and did not hear anything back until the email we all received the night of Jan 4 about the positions being sent in to HR. Its been a week since then, so I believed I did not get picked, as well as had other offers that I was very excited about (including the one I took at UCLA.)

Sorry for the long story, but wanted to let you all know that USC is calling, and there is a position up for grabs in CVTICU! Best of luck to all of you who accept!

Thanks for letting us know ! Really appreciate it.

Any word ?? Ugh! I don't like to be impatient but I don't like to be left hanging either. I tried calling both recruiters, but no pick up. except for the versant program manager, who else do you think I can talk to about the mystery "list"?

Hello again Pinky 2010,

I have no clue how many people they are looking for med. surg. This is very confusing because I don't know what is my status since until today I did not receive any rejection e-mail (thank God). They told me that they will notify the candidates either they're selected or not. You know, everytime I checked my e-mail, I always looked for the rejection e-mail ha..

Take care.

@juliehan: i got a a call and was offered a job. they told me they are behind schedule. good luck!

you make sense, and i agree with you.

Hey pinky congratulations!

Was it for Sicu? Don't feel bad if it is haha. Itd be nice to know prior to my rejection so Im prepared. Thanks !

@RN, BSN, PHN: yes it was. i hope you get a call back as well, let me know how it goes.

Hi Pinky,

I got a call too but I had to turn the offer down because I have to go to France tomorrow, my grandmother had a stroke yesterday and my family would like to be with her. I will be in France most likely for the rest of this year. Good luck, it has been very nice to correspond with you via this forum. Thanks. Ciao !!

I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope your grandmother has a speedy recovery. Good luck with everything and I can't agree with you more that family comes first.

Does anyone know when Cedars will start accepting applications for the summer cohort?

I was wondering what types of interview questions should I be prepared for if I were invited for an interview (crossing my fingers). I just recently applied for the new grad program that starts in Aug 2011.

Thanks!
