USC Keck RN Residency Summer 2018

Published

Hi everyone! Just thought I'd start a thread for those who are applying to the USC Versant New Graduate RN Residency Program for the summer of 2018. This is a way to stay updated throughout the process and ask each other questions. Thanks and good luck to us all!

Hi! Congrats first of all on your offer! I wanted to ask how the EKG exam and Med Admin test are if you've already taken it! Is it pretty straight forward?

That's right, it's still a contingent offer. I was also told there would be a review course for the EKG exam and so HR is planning on keeping that test date as far back as possible. Best of luck and let me know if you get in!

I haven't taken it yet but I will be testing this week. Med admin is completely open book but timed and EKG is not open book but not timed. If you fail, you get a retry. Have you tried the practice exam they suggested from NLN?

I just got the call today about the practice test. I'll probably start that soon. I didn't get a chance to go to the EKG course though because I wasn't given much notice about the class. Other than identifying the rhythms and interventions, I don't really know much else about the test. Mostly worried about the EKG =\

I wasn't able to go to the EKG review course either as I was out of town. Did you get the EKG review study guide and the review course PPT from HR? It says it will just be interpreting rhythms and ACLS interventions. I'm more worried about the med admin test lol

Yes! I was able to get both of those. I just took the practice med admin test and it's not too terrible. I most definitely need to brush up on some stuff but not bad at all. Good luck testing this week! Let me know how it goes!

If you pass the practice test, you will pass the med admin test. The EKG is easy if you know your rhythms. The rhythms were easy to distinguish, as it almost looks textbook. Know your ACLS and how to measure rhythms and you'll be fine. I stressed way more than I needed to for these exams

What do you need to pass the med admin test? Also when you say measuring rhythm, do you mean like PR, QRS intervals and such?

Just practice with the practice test they encouraged us to purchase and use. And yes for the second question.

Specializes in Cardiovascular ICU.

Hello all!

I did not apply for the RN Residency program, but I did apply for an ICU position as an experienced nurse. I got the online assessment questionnaire first. Have not been interviewed yet. It says my application is under consideration. Anyone know what this means?

Also, for those who got offered a position, what is the pay rate if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks in advance!

Hi! Personally it took about a month for them to give me an interview! Has it been about that time frame yet?

Also pay is dependent on years of experience so I dont know specifically how much it'd be for you. Good luck though!

I applied about 3 weeks ago and just got an email earlier this morning to complete the online assessment questionnaire. No interview yet. I'm reading everyone's posts and seems like everyone got an interview first and then the online assessment.

I'm still a fairly new nurse. I only have 2 years of experience in ICU. So does this mean they might possibly be interested in my application? *crosses fingers*
