Forum for any and all discussions about the upcoming nurse transition program selection board for the USAF in 2012
OMG! i just now came across this thread and I couldn't be more excited to find a board full of members that are feeling the same exact things I am! VERY anxious and excited! I have read every page and post up until now and I have come across a couple other members that went through my same recruiter in Colorado! :) Which by the way, he was AWESOME and worked very, very hard for me/us! All of us worked very hard at just getting this point in the application process and I wish the best of luck to every single one of you! We are eachothers competition and to get together on this board already shows the comradery and support we have for eachother! I myself, applied for Med/Surg. I wish time flew by... :)
Welcome to the thread and thanks for joining us! Tell us about yourself...when do you graduate...what kind of experience do you have...why did you choose the AF...stuff like that. Good luck and hopefully we will see each other in the near future :)

ok peeps...little update from my end in idaho...
so yesterday, i get this text from my recruiter at about 10am saying i need to check my email. i'm on night shift this month, so of course i was sound asleep, but i've been keeping my phone turned on and sleeping right next to it for just such a reason :). well, naturally about crapped my pants and broke every bone in my legs tripping over stuff trying to jump outta bed and run out to my computer! :redlight: i get there and i have this email from my recruiter saying she needs to know what kind of "continuing education" credits i have, and whether or not i have ACLS. i thought that was kinda weird, cuz i was pretty sure she already knew i'm ACLS certified...i gave her a copy of my certificate with everything else in my application. ok, whatever...but the continuing education part...i was never asked to include any of that before. so i called the hospital where i work and got a current record of all the CE credits i have (which is barely anything cuz i've only been an RN since january) and scanned it and emailed it back to my recruiter, along with another copy of my ACLS card. then i texted her back and told her all that, and she said she'd call me tomorrow, that she was down in Portland doing some recruiting work and wouldn't be back to her office in Tacoma till late. so this morning we talked, and she just confirmed that she got my email and the attachments, but THATS IT! she doesn't know any more about release dates, or how many applicants applied, or WHY IN THE WORLD THE PROGRAM MANAGER WANTS TO KNOW ABOUT MY CE AND ACLS...or anything else. sooooo...as if this whole process and all this waiting wasn't already nerve-wracking enough, now i get to spend the next 10-20-some days wondering why the board requested that extra info, and what it means, and all of that!!!! I'M GONNA GO OUT OF MY MIND!!!!!!!!! thank god tonight is my last night shift for a month, cuz i'm really not gonna get any sleep the next few weeks during the day cuz i'll be busy waiting and checking my phone and email about every 17 seconds for any news or requests from my recruiter. holy crap...i can't wait for this to be over!
has anyone else been asked for anything like that? extra info or anything?

Omgosh! I haven't heard from my recruiter..but I haven't graduated yet..so I don't have any CE credits or anything! But stay strong knowing you're a great candidate! Keep us posted! (ps...I love this extra family we've all developed! :) )
I always hate filling stuff out about me! LOL! :) But here goes...I am 24 years old, I graduated nursing school in May 2010. I have been a CNA, LPN, and now an RN all in long term care, which is pretty much my whole background. I had an awesome manager at the time and it was all during nursing school so I didn't want to transition quite yet into a hospital since my schedule was so nice and corresponded with my school schedule. Also, during the same time I was graduating in 2010, my husband was also graduating BMT and is now an active duty AF firefighter. I tested and passed the NCLEX the first time around and continued to work long term care at the same facility because we learned my husband received orders to fulfill duty at Spangdahlem AB, Germany and was set to leave by October 2010, just 4 short months after I was newly licensed. Nice for me being a new grad, right!? NOT!!!! LOL! :) I was totally ecstatic about our journey and was sure it wouldn't be hard to find a nursing job because they hire everywhere. This I learned the VERY hard way because it was not true. So, from October 2010 to April 2012 I was not employed as an RN, which by the way, the QC people made me write a page long explanation as to why I was unemployed as an RN. But during that time period I was working at the on base CDC and was applying to jobs at Landstuhl Army Medical Center with ZERO luck. Which I would assume was due to my lack of acute care experience. I also was going through a recruiter that was located on the East Coast in which was a huge horrible mess that mislead me for about a year and wasted one chance of me applying for last year's NTP, so I knew I HAD to find another recruiter. After talk with my husband, we both decided it was best for me and my application process to move home to Colorado and find an acute care job in a hospital to strengthen my chances of being selected. With that being said, I moved back home at the end of Februaury 2012 and immediately contacted my current recruiter and in April I got an awesome Med/Surg job at one of top hospitals in town. It has been an amazing job and I have learned a lot. I pretty much had all of my package done from last year's mess [which never got submitted mind you], so I just rectified and fixed some things and my package was due a month or so in advance to when it was supposed to be this year. I graduated Cum Laude with a GPA of 3.65, I am a member of Sigma Theta Tau nursing honor society, I had zero waivers from MEPS, I am BLS certified, I have done countless hours of volunteer work at various hospitals and shelters, I have done a number of charity walks, etc. I have grown up military and now I am married to military. I chose the AF because I want more for my career, I want to look back at it 50 years from now and say WOW! I did some amazing things, things that civilians I know will never get to see or do. This time around I changed the dynamics of my family and moved across the World from my husband to fulfill this dream of mine so I am hoping and praying I get selected. I am still young and no kids, so in my mind, oppurtunities are endless! :w00t:

Dang you have quite the story! Thanks for sharing all that though :). If you're on Facebook you should check out the group called Air Force Nurse Corps or something like that. Most of us here on allnurses are also on that group. Lots of different nurses from all over he AF are members of the group and they've provided good advice and answers to questions we've posted on there. Well...seriously good luck and I hope you get selected. Sounds like you're very passionate about it all. And way to not give up! Who knows...in a few short months you could be on your way to a joint spouse assignment at Spang with your hub!

So what have people decided..are you looking forward to the 10th thinking that's when we'll find out? Or are you keeping your expectations on the 24th? Because last I checked...the 10th is only a week away!!! Eeeek!
I checked with my recruiter and he said we are still on for the 10th....so hopefully in a week we will have some good news

I'm going to go with the 10th...I'm already going crazy/and am about ready to have a heart attack knowing that there is a week left to wait, so I don't want to think about it being an even longer wait.

I hope we find out on the 10th but then again I'm so nervous because my wedding is that day too. Hopefully the news won't spoil my day!
