USA Fall 2015

Nursing Students NP Students

Has anyone applied to South Alabama's Fall 2015 program? I applied to the FNP program. I see from other threads that Nursing CAS recalculates your GPA (usually lower than expected). I can't figure out how to see their GPA calculation. Is anyone else able to see this?

Thanks and good luck to everyone!

I'm wondering why they even have that alternative route for those with under a 3.0 if you don't even have a chance of getting in...?

I emailed them and I physically went there and talked to (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME). He said that the lowest GPA that is accepted for FNP varies each semester and that the previous semester the lowest they accepted was 3.5. Then I received two email replies basically saying 3.3 or 3.4 was about the right GPA to get accepted. 3.0 is the minimum for applying, but does not mean you will be accepted.

Thanks! Oh, I definitely didn't read their requirements and think that it meant 3.0 was a shoe-in for acceptance...lol. I am aware minimum requirements don't equal automatic admission at any school. I was just making sure there wasn't a separate page that I missed when researching.

You should be able to get into the ag acnp with a 3.0. At least, that is what they told me. The dual role acnp/fnp is a little more competitive, but not as much as fnp and requires 1 year icu or ER experience

They keep changing things! I talked to multiple people in October and was told it *must* be ER experience, ICU was not accepted. Shame, the dual was what I was really interested in!

Then go ahead and apply littlepeople. You might have a completely difference experience. If it is what you WANT to do, then I wouldn't give up. They go by experience as well. And I was told that is a big part of it. Looking at other threads - most who got in had between 3 to ten years experience. The GPA is just a part of it. My GPA is 3.5 but the Nursingcas calculated it just above 3.1. I still applied to psych np as that is just because I had a replacement grade.

I have 10 years experience - 4 in emergency room psych.

Go for it!!! And believe. Good luck to you!!

Has anyone heard anything yet? I know for some colleges, like UAB, you are able to create an account before acceptance letters go out? Just wanted to know!

I just got accepted to Univ of South Carolina, which was my #1 pick, so I'll be going there!! If not and I didn't get into ACNP this round with USA, I might've tried doing the dual then!

Congratulations.... So very happy for you!!!

I applied to the FNP track for Fall 2015 admission! Impatiently waiting! From past threads it seems like it can take a while to find out anything. My overall GPA is 3.8 but NursingCAS calculated it at a 3.62. I have 4 years of nursing experience and almost 3.5 of that is in the ER, the rest is a few months on a step down unit and my new position I started a couple months ago in PACU. Really hoping I have a chance!

Sounds like you have a REALLY great chance Adsrn.

good luck!!!
