Urine alcohol screen??

Published

Hello all! So I'm kind of worried because on July 5th I did a pre employment drug screen. The day before was the 4th of July and I had a few drinks at a BBQ. I didn't think anything of it because I hardly ever drink and didn't think it would be a problem. Do they check for alcohol in the urine? Would it show up if I was over 12 hours?

The rule is this: 1 oz of ETOH is metabolized in 1 hr. 1 beer, 1 glass of wine, 1 shot. Unless you drank all day and night, don't worry about it. Relax.

Oh for crying out loud, alcohol is not illegal. They are testing for drugs that you may have obtained illegally- things like cocaine or narcs/benzos that you don't have a prescription for. Your liver metabolizes 1 drink/hour. No potential employer cares that you had a few beers at a 4th of July BBQ.

Neither is nicotine, but many employers are now testing for it and making hiring decisions based on the results.

That said, all my drug screens tested for alcohol, which I thought was odd since they were all done on off hours; in most cases, even a heavy drinker will test negative if it is done during typical working hours.

Will amend that to say I was drug tested at work one day after I hurt my back. Was sent straight to employee health for a drug screen that included alcohol. I don't drink while working, so I was good.

I don't know why I'm so worried about it because it probably isn't a big deal. And if there was a problem they should have let me know by this point right?

Unless you drank yourself completely under the table there is no way that it would show up in your urine 12+ hours later
