URI RN to BSjust

Published

Just received my admittance to University of Rhode Island's RN to BS program online. I was wondering if anyone has done this program and if they liked it or not. I need 33 credits, 18 credits are nursing courses. My start date is in March.

Every week is a bit different. Some weeks are more reading heavy and others there would be like 1 or two chapters plus articles and videos. I would say maybe 20 hours a week or so.

Oh goodness just for one class??! How did you do it? The Sakai suggests "6-12" per course!

Sometimes I wasn't able to finish the readings. But I still did well on the assignments. I work from 3 to 1130 and after work I did readings or homework until 4 am. On my days off it was to do schoolwork. It is doable though. Just gotta be self motivated.

It takes me a bit longer because most assignments were writing and I'm very bad at writing.

I was told to expect to spend 20 hours per week per course.

Hello all! I applied to the URI RN to BSN Online Program this week. I am waiting for my transcripts to be sent to URI and hoping for the best. I received my ADN from CCRI. Do any of you have any updates since you've started the program - good or bad? I'm curious how everyone is doing and how they like the program so far. I also noticed there is a new general education requirement list that began this summer. Anybody have any info on this? Thanks for any input! :)

I've taken nurs 247, 347, 253 and now 447. I've also taken BPS 333 So far 447 has been the craziest amount of work. Most assignments are due thursdays and sundays. this program hasn't been terrible but they only have a small amount of gen eds per semester so a lot of people get upset over that. This is a relatively new program so it's still working out some kinks. I am taking only 1 course per semester so hopefully i finish by 2017.

Thank you so much for the update! You have taken a lot of courses already. Well done! Re: Gen Eds - are they offered over 7 weeks as well or do they run on a regular semester timeline? I'm assuming they can all be taken online since the program is offered in multi states. I guess my biggest concern will be how many of my prior classes will transfer over and count toward the Gen Ed requirement. Thanks again and the best of luck to you!

Thank you recent posters for the updates! I've just accepted admission for September 2016 but haven't been able to find out much information online from others on how they like the courses. I completed my ADN at CCRI and URI accepted all my transfer credits even though I graduated 2003! Looking forward to getting started though I am a little worried about balancing a full time job and going back to school after so many years!

That's wonderful! Congrats! How many Gen Ed courses will you have to take at URI?

Thanks! I have to take a total of 40 Gen Ed credits from what I can tell so far. I haven't really looked at it too closely yet. At this point just looking forward to getting started with the nursing courses!

Yes, the gen eds are 7 weeks too. But each semester only has like 1 or 2 gen eds. They don't have a large selection. I haven't taken any gen eds yet but from the looks of my academic audit, I need 2 or 3 courses so about 6 or 9 credits
