UPenn Second Degree BSN 2014

Published

Hi! Has anyone else applied to UPenn's ABSN program starting this June? I believe we hear back next month so it's getting close! I didn't see another thread started for this cohort so I was just reaching out...

Hey @stretchyourmind,

I applied to Penn, Jefferson's fact program, and Drexel's ace program. Trying to stay near the city.

Excellent. It sounded as if you were still working on pre-req's in an earlier post. Funny you should say you are trying to stay close to home, I'm actually looking to relocate to Philly. Hopefully we all get in and can meet up at some point.

@stretchyourmind, I haven't visited campus. I want to, but I've already fallen in love with Penn, and I don't want to get too attached until I know I'm in! If I get accepted, I will definitely make a trip to Philly.

I hear ya :). Penn is also my #1 choice. I'm sure we are all more than qualified!

Just had my interview! Glad that's over because I was so nervous haha but I think it went alright. Obviously I'd love to be accepted but I'm cautious about dreaming...

Does anyone currently live in Philadelphia?

I currently live in Philly. I moved here about over a year ago.

How easy is life without a car? I've always had my own transportation but I hear Philly is a tricky place to own a car. Ideally I'd like to live within a 10 minute walking distance from campus.

It's not terrible, I've lived here for 1.5 years without a car and we take public transportation (bus, subway) but sometimes they can be unreliable. If you want to live ten minutes walking distance, it's definitely doable because university city, where Penn is located, is in a somewhat residential area that is not too pricey.

I currently live in Philly too, and I've never even desired a car. I pretty much walk everywhere, but I had to rely on public transit when I dislocated my knee several months ago, and I still managed to get everywhere on time. I live in Graduate Hospital which is about a 30 minute walk or 10 minute bus ride to the nursing school. A lot of Penn grad students live off-campus in University City, which is affordable, but you can find nicer housing for the same price elsewhere. Anyway, I love Philly and think it is a really great spirited small-town city.

Anyone know when exactly we should expect to hear back? My interviewer said the beginning of Feb, but I have an enrollment fee deadline on Feb 7 at another school that I'd really rather not needlessly pay...

Also--parking tends to be a headache here.

Thanks for the information, it definitely helps to hear that it is doable.
