UPENN BSN MSN 2020

Updated:   Published

With the application deadline in ~30 days I figured, why not make a thread for applicants? I could've sworn I started a thread for this last week but can no longer find it. I'm applying for the PMHNP speciality and although UPenn is a relatively new addition, I have fallen in love with their program. Looking forward to replies from everyone.

Just got off the waitlist for NNP! So excited. But I was also accepted for Jefferson's accelerated BSN-MSN fact 1 program. If anyone is in the same boat, can you give some of your thoughts?

@sp3299 I am in the same boat as you. Accepted for NNP at Penn and also accepted to Jeff's FACT 1 program. I also would like some incite since the tuition is drastically different when comparing both programs but Penn is my DREAM program.

Are you in the Thomas Jefferson FACT 1 allnurses thread? I was considering Jeff but comments from 2 current students in that thread made me question how good of a program it is (users were VTW2019 and HappyB if you decide to check it out). Obviously complaints from only 2 individuals can be very subjective, but they mentioned things like issues with clinical placement, classroom size/space, NCLEX test prep, and sitting for the NCLEX after graduation... all things that are pretty essential in a nursing program in you ask me. Ultimately, I hope you make the best decision for you regardless of these comments but just thought I would share!!

Thank you for your input! ? I saw those comments as well. I've also heard experiences from multiple people I personally know in Jeff's program and they've given many instances that would deter anyone from attending the FACT 1 program. I'm just hoping to receive some sort of financial aid from Penn to help me make my choice easier!

Anyone know if they are still moving people off the waitlist?

Filomena can answer that better than anybody . Perhaps reach out to her ? You could also inquire about your chances.

Best of luck !!

Has anyone on the waitlist heard back? They said we would get a decision on April 15th, but I still haven't received anything and my application is still posted (which they said would be taken down if not accepted). I figured COVID-19 is probably delaying things, but I wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing the same thing.

Hi @dgaz13 I heard that I was accepted off the waitlist in late March/early April. That said, they are giving people the option to defer due to COVID19 and I'm not sure what that means about the waitlist. Best of luck and stay well!

hi everyone!

I am applying to the BSN/MSN program specifically for 2021.

I was wondering if anyone would mind sharing their stats whether you got accepted to not

My stats:

Graduating from Penn State in 3.5 years with my B.S in neuroscience psychology Fall 2020. Hopefully by the time I graduate my GPA is a 3.4 possibly close to a 3.5. My prerequisite GPA is possibly 3.5 just have to take nutrition and Microbiology. I have done research since freshman year and am a research assistant, I volunteered in both inpatient and outpatient physical therapy clinics, was the captain of the women's tennis team, have been a tennis instructor for about 5 years, this Summer I will be attending Duke's DPT Summer discovery program, and since freshman year been apart of THON (the worlds largest student run philanthropy raising millions of dollars a year to help children impacted with pediatric cancer). I have a bunch more leadership experiences and extracurriculars, however, those are the main ones.

You sound like a very strong candidate! For reference, I was accepted this year and had a lower GPA and much less extra curricular activities than you. As for healthcare experience, I've been working as a nuclear med tech in a major Boston hospital for the past two years. Ultimately I gave up my spot at Penn due to the cost of the program. I'm not sure what they are looking for but you sound like you have a lot going for you.

Hi! I was accepted to the Penn program and I attended a similarly ranked large institution to yours, had the same major, and did a lot of the same extracurriculars besides sports. I was accepted to Penn with a 3.8 GPA and 3.7 in my nursing prereqs. I had at least 6 people review my statements and I really poured my goals and heart out in the essays so I would totally suggest having everyone who would be willing to revise your essays do that (including students that were accepted into the program previously). I wouldn’t worry to much about comparing yourself to others— really focus on acing as many prereqs as you can and getting amazing letters of recommendation. I ultimately decided to attend a different school for my NP program because Penn’s program is extremely expensive, even with a half scholarship. Apply to cheaper schools too and look into the Nurse Corps Scholarship Program as well.

Hi!

I was wondering if anyone submitted a resume that was more than 1 page long and got accepted to UPENN or any other program (if you wouldn't mind stating what programs you were accepted to). My current resume is 2 pages, but all the information is relevant for nursing programs.

Does anyone have any tips or guidance? Could use all the help I can get! Thank you

My resume was about 5 pages. All relevant. My recommenders touched on different sections of the resume. So having all the pages puts things in perspective for the reviewer. I know for a fact it actually weighs in your favor at Penn. Not sure of other schools. Relevance is more important than pages.

Best of luck !!
