Hey everyone! I started this thread for this years application cycle.

1) Tell me about yourself
2) Why Penn and why now?
3) Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
4) Where do you see yourself when you graduate: hospital setting, outpatient etc
Questions application to international students like myself:
4) Do you foresee any problems coming all the way to the US for 15 months
5) Are you on self fund or sponsored
The grad admissions team will discuss this week and results will be out in these 2 weeks.
Good luck to everyone who have yet to do the interviews. You need to know how to answer these questions and do it with conviction.
I think I did ok, fingers crossed. But nothing is confirmed until I receive that acceptance letter!
Congrats on finishing the interview! Not a good idea though to share what the interview questions were. Interview Q's are usually kept confidential so that all applicants are on a level playing field and nobody has unfair advantages. Just my .02. Good luck!

I'm curious about
1. The culture of the school (I want rigor, but I also want a supportive environment)
2. whether or not it's actually feasible to do a minor (during the webinar, the students said they didn't have time),
3. What working throughout the masters portion is like
4. If there are any concerns about marketability for NPs coming out with an MSN vs a DNP
I would love to hear any info you found out! Thank you so much.
Hm so actually I'm not looking at doing the MSN so I didn't ask many of these questions. But in terms of #1:
Penn has a VERY competitive environment, and I know this translates over into their nursing program, too. I asked this same question and was essentially told that you can find friends and people like you that are supportive, but I wouldn't expect that to be the overall nature of the environment. But you do get that academic rigor and are held to a high standard, and there are some very supportive faculty. Penn is an Ivy and it very much feels that way.
2. I haven't met anyone yet that's actually done a minor.
I was also told that a good number of people are taking time off between the ABSN and the MSN portions, even though they didn't plan to given the rigor of the program.
I didn't ask the MSN/DNP, but I really love this video on the topic:

You are wonderful for sharing that, thank you. Super helpful. That's kind of what I'm afraid of as far as school culture goes. I stand firm that a rigorous learning environment is not mutually exclusive with a positive, supportive culture. I know Yale and Hopkins both have intense programs, but it seems like everyone is riding off the energy of all being in it together and making it happen. I'm worried, from what I'm hearing, that the overall energy of UPenn is of running yourself into the ground...

Hi I applied for the AGNP primary care back on December and I got an interview about a month later. And a few weeks ago I got my acceptance letter.

Yeah I understand. I've met a lot of really nice students and I've decided to accept my admission to Penn (I'm in their combined BSN-PhD, so it's a bit different) so at least there will be one other supportive person there? lol. I also think it's important to look at the differences between those three programs. (I think) Yale gives you a certificate and then you advance straight through to the MSN, while Penn actually makes you get a BSN before going to the MSN. Hopkins makes you get a 2-year MSN and then complete additional post-masters programs (or a DNP) to get the NP. It would depend on what type of degree you think would be most beneficial to you. I decided not to do Hopkins' MSN because most of the additional coursework for the masters portion wouldn't be transferrable to a PhD, which I knew I wanted to do. Another thing I didn't like about Hopkins is that they don't give ANY need based/merit aid and there is really only one major medical system in Baltimore while Philly has a few.
All the programs are unique in their own ways, and hopefully one of them stands out to you that really fits your goals :).
Hi all! I have been silently stalking this thread and figured I should finally introduce myself. I was accepted into the ABSN program at Penn, and will be there next week for the official visit day. Anyone else going to be there/looking for potential roommates for next year? I am originally from CA but currently go to school in St. Louis. I am currently deciding between Penn and UW--pretty different schools, but lmk if anyone else is in the same boat!

Hey! Congrats on your acceptance, I'll also be there next week for the official visit/looking for a potential roommate. I did my undergrad in Missouri!
