2018 UPenn BSN/MSN

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Greetings fellow 2018 UPenn BSN/MSN applicants! Just thought I could start a thread for the incoming applicants so we can help each other out through the application process.

Does anyone know if we need to submit separate transcripts for study abroad programs if it's already clearly stated on our official undergraduate transcript? Thanks! : )

Anybody know from last years applicants the timeline for acceptances for both the BSN and MSN portions? I know Penn starts to send out invitations for interviews in November, which are conducted in early/mid December. I think acceptances start coming out in January (?) but I'm not sure.

Yeah, your timeline is correct but like @Vee112 said, the acceptances come out around the 2nd week of February.

I guess they aren't interviewing for BSN/MSN FNP specialty this year!

Interview dates from the email I received today --

Friday, December 8, 2017: Adult and Gerontology Acute Care NP, Adult and Gerontology Primary Care NP, Nurse Anesthesia, Pediatric Acute Care NP (Chronic, Critical Care and Oncology Concentrations), Neonatal NP, and Nursing and Healthcare Administration Programs,

Monday, December 11, 2017: Hillman BSN-Phd program, Nurse Midwifery, Pediatric Primary Care NP and Women's/Gender Related NP Programs

Psychiatric Mental Health NP – Tentatively scheduled for Monday, December 11th.

Family Health NP Program: Unfortunately, due to the high number of applicants and limited faculty availability we are unable to offer interviews.

Invitations to interview will be sent via email on Nov 14

Did anybody else receive this email? I applied to the FNP track and did not receive an email stating this. If so, does this mean they are not even accepting students?

@Sb328 I don't think it means they're not accepting students, just that they won't be interviewing. So perhaps decisions for the FNP track will be made without interviews? I think you should contact Admissions just to confirm though!

When I went to the open house a few weeks ago, they mentioned that because they receive 100+ applications just for FNP they can not conduct interviews. They tried doing phone interviews last year but apparently it was too much and this year the faculty has requested no interviews for FNP. That said, they did say that they will make final decisions for FNP without interviews.

Hi All-

So glad I found this thread!! I drove down to Portland (I'm from Seattle) last April to attend a group information session for Columbia, John Hopkins, and Penn. Even though I was going for Columbia, I never imagined I would come out as excited as I was about UPenn!

I am applying to the midwifery track. My GRE scores are 158/155/4.0, my undergrad GPA is a 3.44 in civil and environmental engineering, and I have a 3.91 prereq GPA. I feel like a bit of an underdog when I look at some of your stats. I'm hoping that a year of experience in healthcare will help me out.

We are already so close to interviews coming out (for those who didn't apply to FNP). I would love to hear more about your stats and if anyone else is applying to midwifery.

Best of luck everyone!!!

Has anyone run into problems when they call admissions for this program? I've called several times and the woman who answers is always mumbling, disinterested and don't know the answers to my general questions about the program :/

Hi @mma22664,

I haven't called them directly but when I have e-mailed the person who responds they always seemed to be quite helpful. I also met the AD of Admissions when she was doing her Open House Tours across the country this year and she seemed like a very nice lady. She was the person that mainly responded to the e-mails I sent to admissions.

I know it doesn't quite answer your question, but have you tried e-mailing? It might it easier for the other person on the other end if they could research an answer before they come back to you?

I've tried emailing but I usually receive a one sentence response? I think I will just email the AD of admissions directly :) Thank you for your input!

Anyone know if I need to complete that midterm report for classes I'm currently taking if I'm already finished with the prereqs? I'm taking some classes at a CC but they're for another school I got into. But yes @mma22664 I would reach out directly to the AD of Admissions (call or email her). She's super nice and helpful!

Yes, I think you need to. The e-mail said any classes that you were enrolled into, (they didn't specify whether it was for pre-reqs or not) just that they were in progress for Fall 2017. It is better to be on the safe side since you will probably have to resend your full transcripts again once you are admitted since your records are incomplete without them.

The other option is to e-mail FC and see if she can clarify. But let us know, I don't have any classes in progress right now but I was contemplating maybe taking one more class just to refresh my knowledge so I expect if I do that, I will need to resend my transcripts from the college if I am admitted so that my records are complete as well.
