I thought I'd start this thread... anyone else applying? App is due this Saturday! I really like the research opportunities that this program offers to its students.
me and my husband have to find a place together. we want to get a dog :):) i've emailed a friend who lives there about best neighborhoods (safety/proximity) near upenn. I've heard the area around the school is not so great... can anyone verify this? otherwise there is a lot of stuff on craigslist, rentals for 1BR under $800. this sounds amazing as i'm coming from SF/Bay Area!!!
when i get the list from my friend, i'll post here!
Congratulations everyone! As someone who is hoping to hear back soon and get an interview (applied for MSN)...would anyone mind telling me what kinds of questions they were asked at the interview? I know I'll probably get somewhat different questions since I'm traditional MSN, but anything would helpful!
one question that i really stumbled on was, "i'm going to be interviewing a lot of individuals in the next day; what are three words that will remind me of your application when I look back on it." whoa... I stumbled. i asked if i could say three phrases instead, and just tripped over myself :):) she also asked what journals i read, if any, and how i would describe my role as an NP to someone who is confused about the different between doctor and nurse practitioner. can't remember more at the moment!
Wow, it seems like it really depends on who you speak with. My interview was short (20-30 minutes) and very friendly/informal. She asked me why Penn, why nursing, why my specialty, how I feel about moving to Philly, etc.. Then she asked a few questions about my research background and foreign language abilities - all very easy to address since I highlighted these things in my personal statement. Then I asked her a few questions, and that was it. There were no gotcha questions. I wonder if it depends on your specialty? Maybe the psych people are just laid back, hehe. :)
i think it depends who you interview with, too! i interviewed with a panel of 4 faculty members. they asked why nursing, why nurse anesthesia, what i do to relieve stress, how i feel about the philadelphia area, my biggest strengths and weaknesses. they also asked me about my research and some of the volunteer work that i do.
