UPenn BSN/MSN 2012

Published

I thought I'd start this thread... anyone else applying? App is due this Saturday! I really like the research opportunities that this program offers to its students.

i will for sure. if we haven't filled out FAFSA/done taxes for 2011 yet, will they still send us our financial aid info?

My impression is that for the summer, there are 3 course units in total, so that comes out to be about $15,000 for summer's tuition. It looks like most of the courses are 1 course units. If you look at the sample curriculum, I think the number at the top of each semester (4 or 5 course units) is the total number of course units for that entire semester, not for each class. That's what I think and makes sense with the tuition prices they are giving us. Or I can be completely wrong and Penn is really, really expensive!

I believe you're right, thuyd527. It looks like it's 5,000 per course. That's still very pricey, but much more in line with other private programs. It will be interesting to see how the financial aid shakes out.

oh thank goodness... i was about to have a little cry over that haha. you all are great! i'll still post when i get the word from john delong.

ariana22...I couldn't message you either. email me. [email protected]

Hey guys, I have a quick question. Are you guys filling out the 2011-2012 FAFSA or 2012-2013 one? I assume it should be 2012-2013, but we start in June, not July (the website says that the 2012-2013 is for July or later).

I'm going to be filling out the 2012-2013 FAFSA. I'm pretty sure that's the one we need to fill out.

I was wondering if anyone has gotten their financial aid award letter yet?

I don't know if this helps, but my hubby is in grad school right now and we did end up filing the prior year fafsa for his summer classes at the start of the program as they told us. Because if we didn't, we wouldn't have much funding for the next year's summer! It was great too because we qualified for subsidized loans for those classes...

Still waiting to hear back on my application! But at least I did hear from them that my application is officially in "review" and it should another few weeks...

I would email John Delong or Antoinette with these questions - he told me to fill out 2012-2013 FAFSA, 5th year undergraduate. My big question now is how to split up my husband and my income on our joint tax return for collegeboard.com and FAFSA - the question on each online form is almost identical, and sounds something like: "How much did your spouse earn during 2011?" "How much did you earn during 2011?" With a joint return, how do we break that down? Just input the amounts from our W2's? I'm waiting to hear back from John on this question but getting a little anxious as I'd like to submit all my papers so that I can receive a preliminary financial aid package before March 12.

Hi everyone!

I have been accepted to Penn as well as Johns Hopkins and Columbia for the Acute Care NP specialty. I know it is a great problem to have, but I am stressing out trying to decide where I want to go. Any advice?

Hi everyone!

I am in the same exact boat. I'm waiting for my financial aid packages from all three schools before I can decide. All of them are great schools, so it is super hard to decide. I had my heart set on Penn (love what I've heard about the area and the program), but after calculating the total cost for the ABSN portion, it came out to be a lot more than what I had initially thought. I thought it was $42k for tuition/fees for the whole thing, but I realized that it was the price for one year (fall/spring). The ABSN program includes 2 summers, 2 falls, and 1 spring. So I estimate the total cost to be about $78k, which is ALOT of $$ for a 1.5 year program. Anyone, please correct me if I'm wrong. But I do love Penn, and it is an investment in our futures, so I might "splurge" on it. Hopkins is $64k for a 13-month program and Columbia is roughly $70k for 12 months (the shortest of the 3). I'm going to research more on the schools and possibly use a pro/con list. How are you deciding?? I would love some advice as well.

Are those numbers just tuition or do they include other expenses? Penn is actually quite a bit more expensive than that. Granted, the information they sent me included living costs, books, meals, etc. on top of tuition... but it was well over 100k for the BSN. They offered me a generous grant which brought down the price, somewhat. Comparing that to 70k total for UCSF's first year (includes housing, etc.), makes me queasy!
