I posted this a few minutes ago under the wrong heading, so I'm putting it here where it the OP originated. Thought this topic is a good one to update as many older BSN's are looking into NP school and worrying about age being a factor - hopefully this update helps that specific audience!
The UPDATE is:
I have been accepted to a Family PMHNP program, to start Fall 2016!
I just wanted to thank you all for your encouragement to follow my dreams - this is a great start!
Anyone who has any additional or personal experience with age being a factor in getting a job as a PMHNP after graduation and certification - please feel free to comment. It is the one thing I am still nervous about - hopefully there will still be plenty of PMHNP jobs out there and age will not be a huge issue. (?)
Comments on that subject are very welcome - and again thanks to all of you for encouraging me to go for it!

Congrats to you! I will be 51 when I graduate my acute NP program. We certainly have the brain and the desire. My main issue is struggling with the onset of menopause which leaves me exhausted and I wish I'd started sooner. But hey ho, what can you do? Enjoy your program!

Congratulations to you! Follow your dreams despite age! There are many who have done just that before you and many even older. So which school are you going to?

What school was this? I missed the first thread. I'm applying to PMHNP schools for the fall.

Congratulations!!! I am in my early 40s and just started AGACNP this year. One thing I've learned, it's never too late for anything!!! Here's to us 'young once'!

I am 48 and am starting FNP school in the Fall. I will be 50 when I graduate.....but I am basically a teenager in a 48 year old body. :)
