UofSC CRNA Spring 2021

Published

Hello! Just wondering if anyone has applied to the University of South Carolina's CRNA program for Spring 2021? It's the last program in my immediate area that still offers a master's so I'm super anxious about getting in.

Yea I heard on Thursday as well. CONGRATS on everyone who got an interview. I think it'll be a lot easier since we can do the interview from home. does anyone have any More info on how the interview works? Is it just one patient scenario? I heard south carolina has a low attrition rate - 3% I think

Well, I don't have first hand information but I have read older posts about the interview. From what I've read it has 2 parts. I'm not sure how those 2 parts are divided. I read on their website their attrition rate was 3%... I guess they have really good student support and/or are mindful of who they select.

What does everyone think of the program/heard about it. I remember they got 900+ cases and 10 clinical sites. Is it a good program for the area?

Hey RntoNPtoRN - I saw your stats on another discussion forum...pretty impressive - have you gotten already in other programs or interviewed? I applied to about 5 programs, got interview at 1 in the midwest and waitlisted there. I'm gonna apply to a few more programs.

Anybody else wanna share how their apps/interviews went?

No, I have not interviewed or gotten into other programs. Aside from USC and UNCC, I have not applied anywhere else. I am retaking Chemistry this Summer. Applications for other schools I would consider going to don't open until later in the Summer (UNCC AND UNCG). What was the interview like at the midwest school?

Maybe they're still giving out interviews. You could always apply at Medical University of SC if you really wanna go to a school in South Carolina.

Also waiting on interview notification. Had to wait until 4/30 to turn in application due to department manager not giving references until last second. Fingers crossed! Interviewing via computer will be strange but helpful for nerves.

It was very laid back. I think all the interviews at CRNA schools have the 2nd and third years talk with the interviewees about the program just like at this school. The faculty didn't ask any direct clinical questions - just to describe your background, what are your weaknesses, why you're choosing this school to apply to, what challenges have you overcome, basic interview questions for a hospital. It was more of a get to know you kind of interview rather than asking about vasopressors or what to do if a patient is septic. Of course there was also a tour of the anesthesia lab simulator, which was impressive and of the campus. The best part of the interview process was definitely asking the upperclassmen about the program when it was just us without the faculty. They explained what their clinical were like, going to different clinical sites, how they paid for the program, how to do well in class, getting a job after - they were very open about the program and helpful.
