unsatisfied with ielts results

Published

HI! I just received my test report form in ielts. Well, I'm not happy with the result, actually I feel so depressed. I got 6.5 in speaking test, but I need to have atleast 7 to qualify me to apply for a visa screen certificate in CGFNS/ICHP. The rest of my scores though are okay. This is my fourth time to take the test and I always get 6 or 6.5 in speaking test. I already enrolled in a review center and even speak to a native english speaker (american) regularly to improve my speaking skills but my scores did not improve. I don't know what else to do. I'm thinking maybe there are other english speaking countries out there beside U.S. which only require a minimum band score of 6.5 in speaking? Please help! I'm tired of retaking the test just to get atleast 7 spoken band.:bluecry1:

I also took IELTS last October ,and that was my fifth attempt to take the test. I got L-7.5, R-7,W-6.5,S-7, after receiving my TRF, I immediately returned it to the test center together with the accomplished EOR form and the original TRF.

I will be waiting for the remarking until mid-week of December, hoping and praying that there will be improvement, since I am confident for my writing task.

Hi Spicynoodles,

Hi,

It would be better if you ask the center, since overseas it will take 8-10 weeks. And I am still waiting for mine...Thanks:lol2:

Happy to take any advice at the moment...

I scored 8 in all sections of my IELTS except for reading which was 6.5 (I need 7 in all areas)...and English is my first language! I'm Australian born and educated, I have a master's degree!

Would you suggest that I re-sit the exam or challenge my mark? I did read on the internet that if you answered 'T' for True, 'F' for false that this is an incorrect answer, I think this is what I did wrong :(

Please help!

sometimes, it is best to just retake the test esp. when time is a concern. And if the rumor is true, they said that band scores rarely change on re-computation. So it's a frustrating incident all together unlike taking it again and taking the test with more test-taking skills and confidence. BUT, this may be just that, rumors.

I have heard some native English speakers that were not able to get their desirable score. This isn't because they're incompetent but maybe due to test-taking skills.

Reading, esp, is probably one of the hardest sub test due to time constraint. Listening and Speaking maybe the easiest. With writing, it really needs skills and technicalities before they give you a desirable score.

Good luck all.

Happy new year to everyone!

Hello! Out of curiosity, how was your remarking? I have had my share of struggles in the writing subtest. I took it last June and was advised by my teacher to have it remarked but was too down to even work on it. Last September, I retook the exam and thankfully, I passed. I hope all is well with your remarking:)

Hi,

I am still waiting for the remark. I am hoping and praying tightly that there will be changes in my score. :)

hi guys, i am also planning to have a remarking for my grde in ielts, idp manila.

this is my score that i got last dec. 10,11

L- 8, R- 7, S- 7 and w-6.5, and total band of 7

i know its already a good grade but i need 7 in all four categories, but then im really confused if i will still going to continue it, due to its price, i've heard before that the rechecking fee is just 5000 but now its 7000, and its too costly to gamble with =( can anyone give me a tips or any thought that might help me in deciding..,,

help! =(

Hi Juvaila,

Yeah, it is true, that asking for remarking is very expensive indeed. However, if you are really sure that you have scored higher than the score that you have received, then I would go for it.

I think, we are even in the same situation, since I also need all 7 in every category for one sitting. But, I have score 6.5 in my writing task as well, so, I am still waiting for my remarking result. I keep on praying and hoping that there will be changes.

If you think you deserved a higher score, then I would recommend to go for a remark.

God Speed and Bless!

Hi Everybody,

I recently took an ielts test and got L8,R7,W6.5,S6.5, as everybody I need 7 in each section, therefore, I am thinking about remarking as I am confident that I did well enough to get 7 in each. I am just wondering if anybody had score raised in 2 sections, I read many posts where score was raised in one section sometimes writing or sometimes speaking. please share your experience if anybody knows the situation where 2 scores were changed in remarking.

thanks
