I'm doing my pre-reqs for Nursing school, and I'm taking English Comp. My instructor gave several possible themes for our second essay, and I chose "Unrealistic steriotypes of medicine on TV" since I felt I could benifit from the information. My problem is, since I've never worked in the medical feild I'm having a hard time getting started. So, if anyone would post some examples of things you have seen on tv that drove you crazy, or made you want to throw things; it would help me greatly!

Have a Great Day!

Hi, I live in Neverland, a long way from WI. I like the episode where Dr. Cox's wife's brother died, very poignent. I like the one where they start making fun of Carla's tendency to tell everyone their faults. LOL, that was fun. How about the one where that boy swallows the engagement ring? Then in a later episode, Carla finds out. I like the Dolphin trainer boyfriend, and how about the episodes where Michael J Fox plays the doctor with OCD? I like it, too, when Elliot changes her hairstyle and everyone starts making fun of her.

Oh my gosh yeah!! M.J. Fox was great!! he really hit that part! i like Cox too! have you ever watched outtakes and stuff from the DVD's? they go into back stories, and the actors talk about their characters and everything, pretty neat! i like the one to where JD's bro sits in the bathtub and wont get out! and how about Rowdy??? the one where Janitor helps carla get him cleaned and we find out his back story about stuffing squirrels! Janitor had the one episode that he dressed up as his "twin brother"! that was good! We could go on for hours!!! hahah

But i really really gotta get something done! i need motivation!! got any spare??

My total all-time movie fave is Stephen Seagal's Hard to Kill in which he wakes up from a coma, escapes a killer without ever leaving the stretcher, and somehow the only nurse in a unit full of comatose patients abandons the unit to help him -- and KEEPS HER JOB!

I LOVED IT!

Yes, the twin brother episode was very funny. Janitor is so silly. I like the way the show makes everyone look like a fool sometimes. It's also fun to pick out all the medical errors.

LaVerne cracks me up big time. She's always telling people that they'll have to answer to Jesus. LOL, she's such a gossip too! I like the one where she runs around in fast motion spreading some gossip about Elliot that Elliot has naively confided to LaVerne!!:lol2:

thats funny that you say you like to pick out errors! i do that with shows and even commericals, sometimes i dont even know that i am doing that and my bf says something. he knows that drives me nuts sometimes, when they have so much wrong or just not even true! dang, i love this site even more every post and pm!! i love janitor! halarious!!!

Uhh doctors draw labs and start IVs all the time. Not as much as nurses but to claim that its inaccurate to show them doing those tasks is ridiculous.

Now doctors changing bedpans and washing patients? Thats absolutley unheard of.

Uh, nope. I've seen it. Rare. But happens.

I just watched the episode where Turk messed up on a surgery and damaged the nerves on the hand of a piano prodigy. Very well done. The hotshot surgery mentor babe distracted him in surgery, and he asked her if she had ever made love to a black man. He is lusting after her right before his impending wedding. He hasn't gotten the nerve up yet to mail the invitations. Right after he makes that comment he slips and ruins the young concert pianists ability to use one of his hands.

I have to say, Scrubbs manages to incorporate some racial humor very deftly. They don't dwell on the subject but they don't ignore it. They have some great writers.
