Hi everyone! So I know it's really early, but I am super anxious about applying for the 2017 Fall nursing program at UNLV. If anyone else is applying for Fall 2017 comment below!! Good luck to everyone :)
So I missed 3 questions on the reading comprehension, and 1 question on math, grammar, and A & P. I was the most nervous about A&P so I took that first. The first few questions seemed very specific which made me very nervous, but after that they were all pretty general. I would focus on hormones and then go through the lab manuals from both A&P 1 and 2. That is what really refreshed me for some of those small details and general processes. I also did as many practice quizzes that I could find just to see where my general comprehension of old material was at. For math, the purple HESI study guide book was key! It literally has everything that is on the test, and if you know how to do all of that, then you should get close to a perfect score. The grammar section of that book was also VERY similar to the actual test. Know ALL of the "most incorrectly used terms" that are in that book and you should be very well prepared. The reading comprehension section gave a good practice, but that really comes down to reading more logically and being able to make inferences. Overall the reading section of the test was very very basic and reminded me of a middle school reading comprehension test.
Make that purple book your bible, aside from the anatomy section, it practically tells you what the test is. I'm sure you guys will be perfectly fine as long as you take your time and study the sections that are hardest for you!
Also, make sure you bring your ID with you or else they will not let you take the test!
I second Lindsey. I studied similarly to Lindsey's suggestions and I ended up with a 95% overall.
@goodwolf: When I took it, I didn't have any pictures or anything during my A&P section. That doesn't mean there won't be anything though. I'm not sure if any others got pictures during their HESI or not.
I'm most excited for the fact that I'm progressing in life. I like knowing I'm staying on track for my goals and that I'll be in a career that I enjoy one day. Other than that, I look forward to being able to have the knowledge to benefit others and better their lives. Meeting new friends and people is another plus as I am new to the area! Lol. I'm not excited for the countless hours of stress though. That's probably a normal thing when you're in school but still not something I enjoy. How about everyone else?
Dang! You guys have really high points. I'm only at 91.3 points and I don't think that'll be good enough for the fall cutoff, so I'm retaking classes again to increase my score or retake my HESI, but I got a 95% already. If I got a 100% on my HESI, I would've gotten 94.5 points overall. What do you guys think? I'm nervous and scared, and also sad. I was really excited to start, but I'm trying to be realistic.
I know the cutoff's for the last few semesters have been:
Fall 2016: 92.7
Spring 2017: 91.1
Summer 2017: 92.4
It's getting competitive, but it looks like Spring is my best bet! Wish me luck, guys! I'm so excited for all of you. :)
@DominiqueRose: You nearly have a perfect score on the HESI. I don't think you should retake the HESI to try to get 100% on it. If it were me, I would retake some classes. In my opinion, it's easier to get an A in a class than it is to get a perfect score on the HESI. The only con to this is that retaking classes is far more expensive than retaking the HESI. Ultimately, the decision is up to you though. Are you planning on applying for the fall?
Yeah, you're right. I'm just really worried about money and tuition + everything else. I don't think I'll be retaking the HESI, that's already pretty high and I studied really hard for it. I am applying for the fall, but I might cancel my signing session and just wait for the spring and retake two classes in summer term 3.
The points are just getting higher, so I don't wanna lose a chance of applying since we only have two attempts.

Omg Lindsey you're amazing ! lol you'll for sure be getting a phone call in July. Congrats! Keiko, the A&P section was extremely broad so I would glance over your lecture notes. There weren't many nitty gritty details. There is no time limit for each section. However, you have 4 hours to complete the entire test. So you could spend as much time as you like on each section, but everything has to be done in 4 hours. Goodwolf: I got 100 on the grammar & reading comp. sections because of the hesi pocket prep & the purple book so I'd recommend DEFINITELY using it. All in all, the HESI wasn't hard. You guys will do great
