Hi everyone! So I know it's really early, but I am super anxious about applying for the 2017 Fall nursing program at UNLV. If anyone else is applying for Fall 2017 comment below!! Good luck to everyone :)
Hi guys. My signing session is on the 8th of June. For those of you who haven't taken the HESI & are nervous, you have nothing to worry about. It was super easy. Unless you're really bad at math lol. There were lots of converting fractions to decimals & vice versa. Adding/subtracting fractions & decimals. All the math was basically fractions lol. & there were a couple of word problems that were tricky. Not too many military time questions; I think I got like 1. Grammar is easy but it definitely test your knowledge of sentence formatting & the different components of a sentence: indirect object/direct object. If you study the purple HESI study guide book, you should do really well on it. I used that & took a bunch of quizzes on google. & downloaded a HESI app.
I'm so excited & so scared for the program (if I get in lol). Up until now, the work has been manageable. But I'm scared that once I get in the program I won't have enough time to study as much as I was able to study for the pre-req science classes. I'm scared I'll burnout & not get enough sleep or eat well enough. & I'm really scared I won't be smart enough to finish. But, I am very excited to wear the scrubbbs & go to clinical & the simulation centers & learn how to make patients feel safe & taken care of & get my stethoscope & learn all the skills taught in the program.
No problem, Keiko! If I calculated everything right, I'm applying with about 97.5ish points. You don't need to be nervous. You'll do fine!
As for the HESI, all I did to study was read the purple HESI book and supplement it with quizzes. I used the HESI Pocket Prep app almost every night and did a some quizzes online as well. The app is only $12 with tons of questions. The HESI book is enough of a review to get you a good score for the math, reading, and grammar portions. The A&P section in the HESI book is okay but I think it's best to review material outside of the book too because I had quite a few questions that the review book never mentioned. I already had a good grasp of anatomy by being an assistant TA in lab so that helped me out the most for the A&P section.
While I was studying for my HESI, I ran into this persons post. I believe this could be of use for you too! Good luck!

Don't be too nervous about the HESI! It was not as bad as I thought it would be at all! Very straightforward, just read through the purple study guide book and you should be very well prepared! I did that and got a 96.5% overall, and I'm sure if I could do it you could too! I'm applying with 99.1 points, and doing well on the Hesi definitely made a huge chunk of those points. Just relax, breath, and take your time when you sit down to take he test
Hi Lindsey2297! You'll get into the program with those points! That is awesome. I have all A's for my science requirements, so I am hoping I will get a high score for the HESI part since it counts for a lot of our points. I would love to get a score like yours lol
If you dont mind telling me, was the AP section hard or more like big picture questions? The purple book kind of doesnt go into depth so I think I will look through my lecture notes as well. Also, can you tell me about the timing? Is there a time limit for each section and all of that? :)
thank you!!
Hey, Lindsey! Congratulations 'cause you will definitely get into the program. I just hope I'll be there with you, too. Anyway, I would be taking my HESI soon, but I'm hella nervous, but I've been studying. Would it be cool if you give tips regarding each section? Like what should we focus specifically on for math, grammar, and stuff. Your help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Hey, thank you so much for all those information! Was the HESI Pocket Prep app helpful? Also, if you don't mind telling, for the HESI, what did you get for math, grammar, and reading? I'm just so nervous 'cause I'm about to take the HESI in a 'bout week, and I need all the help that I can get.

Finished with my signing session. It was quick and easy. We were told that we should know whether we have been accepted or not by July 13th. We were also told that last fall's cut off was 92.7 and that we could possibly see a similar cut off this year. There were also a total of 12 applicants in my signing session which apparently was a "full session."
And thank you Cultureddd. I found the calculation worksheet and saw that I met the requirement of having at least an 88 minimum to apply. Now I have to anxiously wait a month and a half to see if I get a call!
