Hey guys! I noticed there's no forums on unlv nursing for fall 2020 cohort. Wondering where we all stand for this application cycle so we can all get an idea of the points applying. I stand at a 96.5. I am hoping that is good enough because I was told it's gotten more competitive lately. If you post, please post your points as well or your predicted points just so we all have an idea ? good luck to everyone and stay safe out there!
Hi everyone. I'm new to allnurses, so it's so nice to meet/comment with you all. I am also a hopeful for UNLV's 2020 fall son program. I did the SON calculation worksheet and got a 95.82, but I'm not sure if I calculated it righ. Would you guys mind checking my calculations? I used onionpancake's score template, because I loved how it looked very organized. Are they also counting Chem, because I didn't see it required on the calculation sheet. Also, do you guys think this is a safe score?
BIOL 223= A BIOL 224= A Biol 251: A-
CHEM 108=A NURS 299: A MATH 124: A
No Rebel Recognition Points
HESI A2
Reading Comprehension: 92%
Grammar: 80%
Anatomy: 96%
Math: 94%
Cumulative HESI A2 score: 90.5%
I really hope all of us get into this Fall. I really love the supportive community they have here at allnurses.

Hi @Koemmyjemmy, I calculated your points and looks like you have more pts! You have 15 pts for attempts, and since you have straight As that is 40 pts and your HESI is (362/8.75)= 41.37, a total of 96.37! CONGRATS!

Hi @futureRNMehey, awww thank you for the positive vibes. But one of them is an A- so does that affect my overall score? Also CONGRATS to you too! 97 points you are killing it! Good job.

OMG, I'm sorry, I could've sworn I saw all As! ? Regardless 95.82pts is still a very competitive score! Thank you and Good Luck!

Thanks again for checking up on my scores. I was so unsure about my calculations, but you backing me up helped a lot. Also, good luck too but I think luck is already on your side. ??

Hello @unlvnurse237890,
It's so nice to meet you. IWow, you already reached level 2 - that is such an inspiration to me, and I wish someday I could make it in too. Do you perhaps know what is the grading scale like? Will they be grading with pass or fail? Also, what would be the minimum grade that we must obtain to pass each class?
Im sure you will make it as long as you stay determined!
I copied and pasted the grading scale from the BSN handbook below.
100 – 93 = A
92 – 90 = A-
89 – 88 = B+
87 – 83 = B
82 – 80 = B-
79 – 78 = C+
77 – 75 = C
74 – 70 = C-
69 – 68 = D+
67 - 63 = D
62 - 60 = D-
< 60 = F
Also from the handbook:
A weighted average of at least 75% on course examinations and quizzes is required for the student to pass each nursing course.
Lecture courses are given letter grades, clinical/lab is pass or fail.
Hi @unlvnurse237890, thank you so much for posting the grading scale, and the weighted average. I used to be so nervous thinking about how am I able to juggle all those classes first semester. It's good to see that 75% is the minimum for course exams and quizzes. I feel so much more relieved thanks to your help. Also, I have a couple more questions: Is the minimum letter grade for lectures also a C? In addition, do you perhaps know how many days per week do we attend class?
Yes the minimum letter grade to pass each course is a C.
Each level will look different on how many days you attend class. If you get in for Fall 2020 semester, you will have all lectures courses virtually. For level 1, you will likely spend 2 - 3 days a week attending. And 2 days of the week attending skills lab. Halfway through you will replace the 2 days of skills lab with 1 full day of hospital clinical.
Hi @unlvnurse237890, thanks again for all your help. You are like the nursing school guru I wish I had in real life, and I really appreciate you sharing your wisdom to us new nursing student hopefuls. I wish you and everyone all the best on our journey to nursing school! Vegas nursing students strong!
You will have a real guru in level 1. All level 1's get paired with a level 4 student as their mentor for the entire semester. So just know that you will have a lot of support and guidance!
