Hi everyone! Just wanted to start a forum for those applying to University of Washington's ABSN program for Fall 2020. I'm applying from California and unfortunately, I don't have any healthcare experience working directly with/under nurses as I'm an ophthalmic technician. I graduated last year with a BS in Health Science with a focus in Community Health.
Any feedback/advice on becoming a stronger applicant are welcome, or sharing your progress in the application is great too! Thanks! ?
Hello all - I have a question to everyone who got admitted to UW ABSN 2020. In the admissions e-mail, they said that we'll have to submit a separate post-baccalaureate application and admissions to SON won't be finalized until admissions to UW are granted, which we won't know until May. Does that mean that we don't know if we can go to UW or not until May so we should hold on to offers from other programs until UW admissions final decision comes in the spring? I looked at the applicaiton process and it's another set of applicaiton with a new personal statement and all. Does anyone know? I'm a little confused about this process. Thanks guys!

That was the sense I got, but I suspect it’s more of a formality if anything? It does look like the deposit isn’t due until that second acceptance. Not sure about others, but I haven’t heard back from the rest of my programs yet so a lot could change!

Thanks for your response! Ok, it's good to know that I didn't read it incorrectly. Oh well - another essay!
So this is way ahead and of course pending all of the other steps to admittance, but anyone that has been accepted looking at moving/renting close to campus? Prior to me accepting my offer, I have to think about my living situation and I would be looking to possibly rent a room part time from someone. Would there be anyone else possibly in a similar situation or will be renting and possibly looking for a roommate part time?
Thank you all for your patience as we got all of our notifications out.
I would like to echo everyone's sentiment to those not admitted this year. This is a very competitive program and narrowing down a field of highly capable and admissible nurses is very difficult. Don't give up! Whether it's at our program or another, your goal of becoming a nurse is still attainable!
For those who are interested in meeting with me to discuss their application, please wait until May to contact me. My schedule book will not be open until then. I suggest setting some sort of reminder for May because I won't be able to actually schedule you until then.
For those on the waitlist: Historically it's been significant movement. Last year we didn't go super far, however, the year prior went down to mid-30s.
In regards to the "applying and being admitted to UW" part. In order to actually enter the ABSN program, you have to be an admitted UW student. This means applying to UW as a post-bacc by February 15. In January, we will send UW Admissions our list of admits so that they can admit everyone. The only time I've seen someone we've admitted that UW denies is if they don't turn in an application, they're incomplete or don't actually have a Bachelor's degree. I hope this helps provide some context!
Happy Holidays!

I figured out the answer to my question above and found a community college that offers those classes fully online (with lab component) for those of us who work full-time and can't quit just yet. If anyone needs extra prerequisites and wants to learn about the program, let me know!
What community college did you find with the online classes? I need organic chem
Hi Everyone,
I'm late to this thread but am one of the 64 who got a phone call on 12/13/19. ? Looking forward to meeting some of you in the fall. For those who didn't get accepted this go around, hang in there and don't give up on your goal of getting your BSN. When they told us at the proctored essay that 312 had applied with only 64 slots, I had zero expectations of admission. I was truly surprised but obviously thrilled that something about my application stood out in such a large field.
@krisnurse2016 Same here ? Have you (or anyone else reading this) received any type of confirmation email from Adrian or UW upon submitting the acceptance of offer/intention to register? I had emailed Adrian and he told me they would be sending out confirmation emails a week after the deadline (Dec. 27th I believe it was). Just wanted to double check in this thread. Thanks ?

Unfortunately, there were some other circumstances that prevented me from starting school this year. Feel free to send me your email address :)
