University of South ALABAMA Summer 2017

Hello! Has anyone applied to University of South Alabama NP program that starts in the Summer of 2017? I have (have no heard whether accepted or not) and was just wanting to connect with some people! What is everyone's experience? Has anyone heard anything about this cycle of admission?

Specializes in Hospitalist Medicine.

On a related note, the place I work at sent out a list of all FNP & ACNP programs that have clinical agreements with our site. They listed the expiration dates of each contract and asked if anyone was potentially attending these schools to notify them so they can renew their clinical/preceptor agreements. USA was on the list :) At least I know I'll be able to get my ACNP clinicals lined up. The hard part is going to be the FNP clinicals, especially OB/GYN.

Now I just have the long wait of finding out if I get accepted for Fall 2017. I've got a great GPA, but my critical care experience is the exact minimum (2 years) required for admission to the dual program. I'm hoping I get in :)

Specializes in NICU, Case Management.

I also applied and have not heard anything either. I am hoping to get into the Primary Care PNP program. Keeping my fingers crossed. I have over 15 years in the NICU with PICU and adult ICU experience. I already have a Master's degree but in another field. I doubt that will carry much weight as it was not an MSN. Good Luck to everyone!!

I think they have been trying to send decision letters out quicker than they did before. I am not sure what they wanted exactly for the acute care program as far as experience whether it be all ICU or if they just wanted more hospital based experience - but obviously on the more high acuity side.

MNrnforHIM - You would think you being able to have the discipline to finish a Masters degree would show that you are serious about your education and it should count for something. Your nursing experience is incredible so I am sure you will not have a problem. I know they will look at your GPA and I have heard conflicting stories about what they take for that - I am sure it depends on how many apply, etc.

I would hope so but the schools are so competitive. It seems they look more at undergrad gpa and don't take having a graduate degree under consideration. That's in my opinion is a shame. Who cares what your undergrad grades were if you were able to successfully complete a graduate degree.

Just an update..I emailed them today and they said they still did not have all decisions back!

Thanks for the update! Hoping they get those letters out sooner rather then later.

Sounds like you have heard good reviews on this college? I'm looking at applying soon. My ADN degree had a crappy GPA of 2.9. I've worked 5 years before going back for my BSN which is a 3.9. Hoping they take my experience and see that I got my crap together later in life with a much higher GPA.

When I asked people that have gone here recently I heard that this school left them feeling very prepared to take boards and that's what was really important to me. And so far, they have been very good with communicating with me and that's also important to me. When I asked the dean of admission what the requisites were to apply she said majority of the time they require a gpa of 3.0 and 2 years of experience in the field that you are apply to. I have heard people that these requirements did not get in so I am sure it depends on how many they have apply and your personal statement that you have to write.

I applied to the Summer 2017 FNP program as well. I called last week and was told the letters would be mailed after the 15th. So I think sometime this week or next week we will know. I was told that they send a letter either way.

I just called them and they said letters went out today!! I am in NC and they said if I have not received a letter by the end of next week, call them back! We should all be hearing next week, or maybe even tomorrow if you live close to campus!

Oh wow! Hopefully we will be hearing soon then! Good luck! :nurse:
