Hey everyone! I just submitted my primary and secondary application to the Advanced Emergency Nursing NP program at USA for the Spring 2015. Has anyone else applied? I thought this would be a great way to meet potential class mates and to update everyone on application statuses. Ready, set, go!!
I did the Dual Role NP as well! And I emailed like 3 or 4 people... They said they must've missed my email somehow but that they are considering my application. If you go to Contact Information and email the academic counselor, she will be sure you are added to the list! She got back with me right away. I was sick of calling too haha!
Hi everyone! Good luck in your future studies! I graduated in May with my BSN (new grad, didn't get my ADN first). I know the requirement of needed 2 years experience prior to clinicals, but do yall know if anyone gets accepted with minimal experience? If I apply to start summer 2016 I will have had 2 years when clinicals begin. By the application deadline I will have 5 months experience. My nursing GPA is a 3.9 and my cumulative is a 3.5. I have a previous bachelors degree, which is why my cumulative is lower. Anyone know what my chances would be?
If you don't have the required experience, there is an additional class you will have to register for before you start the actual clinical portion of school. The "class" requires 120 clinical hours to be completed in your specialty area. I had this class on my curriculum, but I started working full time in the ER so I won't have to take it. I have 8 years ER experience, but it has been 5 years ago. So I have the required experience, it just isn't recent enough for the program. I hope this helps.
Thanks for the input. Do I need ED experience to apply for the dual role masters? I will be working in a coronary care unit (so critical care) for a minimum of 24 months so I figured that will be appropriate experience for acute care/family NP.
The dual role is an emergency nursing program (or at least it was when I applied). The specific experience requirements are something you would need to check with the program director about. I'm not sure what will count and what will not. Wish I could be more help.
I do not have specific ED experience and I applied for the dual role NP. I worked in an ICU at a level 1 trauma center for a couple years and now work in an ICU in a community hospital so my background is critical care and I believe I have heard that is sufficient.
On another thread I thought I heard icu exp was sufficient also but I think it's specific to every person

The tract that I applied to was Psych. I will probably go to a per diem position and plan on working minimally while in school. We are getting closer. It was Thursday last week so maybe some of us will hear today! Good luck everyone!
