The Fall 2011 deadline has past, the count down begins. Has anyone else applied? I was planning on applying for the Fall 2011 DNP as sort of a back up. Having writers block with the essays.
Jay,I'd love to hear how it's going. I am teaching nursing clinicals for two schools and work about 23 hours a week. Think I'll be able to continue and handle the first year of school? I know the clinical hours start in year two so I figure it will be harder to hold a job then. Whatever tips you have I'd love to hear about! Thanks. Karin
I am in my 2nd semester and I still work full time, 36 hours a week (three 12 hr shifts). It is do able, but you REALLLY have to be able to manage your time and schedule time to work on your school work. Are you in the BSN to DNP program? Are you doing the 3 or 4 year schedule? Let me know! Congrats! :-)
Sincerely,
Jay H., RN, BSN, CCRN, CPEN
You will have a 'general' orientation this year, the week before you start classes (last year it fell the week the rest of the campus started classes so we were a week "behind"). Then you will come to campus one time/year with your clinical group- each subspecialty has its own time frame.
Full time is intense if you work full time too. I work 40 hrs & have carried 9-12 credits for 3 semesters - part time program I think would give you more sanity.

I am applying to the program, probably for next fall. How competitive is the FNP program? I am a new grad from a BSN program. I had a 3.5 GPA and im working on a med surg floor right now. I really want to go to USA, i'm nervous i won't get in. I've always been strong academically, i've not been turned down for anything, but this is a whole different ballgame and i'm scared to death!!! Any info?
1CVRN, Have you had any trouble finding clinical sites/preceptors? Is it correct to assume that clinical selections are specific to cardiology? I am currently waiting on acceptance notification. I applied to the same track and subspecialty and am just wondering what to expect when it comes time for clinicals. Also, I am wondering do you work as well and if so, how much? I really hope I get in. I am very excited and nervous. Fingers crossed.
