University of San Francisco (USF) Master's Entry MSN Fall 2024

Updated:   Published

Hi! Anyone else apply to USF's ME-MSN, Clinical Nurse Leader program for Fall 2024? I applied for the San Francisco campus. Their FAQ says they take about 10 weeks from the application deadline to send out decisions, so I'm assuming we'll hear back around mid-April. Would love to hear about your guys' experience applying for this program if you applied previously.

Update: I got an email yesterday notifying me of my acceptance from the waitlist for the SF main campus. Good luck to those still waiting to hear back!

I would think we would all hear back at the same time? So it can still others more time?

I think some waitlisted applications are still being reviewed. Consistent with past threads, remaining applicants will be notified once all program spots are filled. Good luck, and don't lose hope!

I was. It came down to time, cost and end goal. I knew I wanted a masters degree so I didn't want to spend time getting a BSN and then having to go back to school for an MSN. It would have cost the same to go that route but would take much longer. I chose USF because of its reputation and student resources. You get what you pay for.

What is the school's reputation and resources. I have honestly heard some negative feedback from some students and some express the program is messy.

First semester we had class on Tuesdays 10-2pm ish and Friday from 8-1:30pm. And then an additional day for clinical.

This semester we have class 8-4:30 on Tuesdays and then our clinical day!

Are you at the SF or OC campus? How are you feeling about the program so far? Do you like it and think you made a good decision in going there?

How has clinical placements been?

How is the material so far. Do you feel the need to use outside resources, or do the professors teach well enough that you don't feel you need extra assistance?

Out of 10, what would you rate the program?

If you had the opportunity to do Nursing at another school that was a bigger university (D1 school as well) and had a top nursing program but it was a ABSN, would you have chosen that? (this is based on the fact that if this was the scenario, both programs would be free to attend).

Hi again! Does anyone know why they don't provide a ranking number for waitlist? Is it lottery based to get off the waitlist?

Hi all. I'm a current student in my first semester in this program. Happy to answer any questions y'all might have about the program.

Hey, I know this thread is old, but if you see this, could you tell me how many hours each shift is for your first semester clinical and do you have options to choose the day you do it?

Also, what's the difference between NURSE 661 and 661K, NURSE 661 one shows a specific date and time that it is held, but NURSE 661K only shows teachers but no dates and times. I need to give my job very advance notice to lock in my schedule, so not knowing about this 661K class is stressing me out. Thank you!

I would contact the school and ask. They will be able to give you a better answer than me.

661 is clinical and 661k is skills lab. I don't know why they make them separate because they are essentially the same. The beginning of the semester you may go to the skills lab instead on your clinical day before starting at the site or go to skills lab after. It is the same group and same instructor. You would only go to the lab on the day that you have for clinical and you wouldn't have to go another day.
Each shift is 8 hours
We were assigned randomly, but they have just changed the registration process to where you get 2-3 options for clinical and just make sure you register right when it opens. I'm not sure how they are doing it for a new cohort though.
Just to give you a heads up, sometimes it takes a while to get a confirmed clinical date and time. This prob isn't an issue for your first semester as the fundamentals sites are always the same. But for future semesters, it depends on the clinical site and and sometimes we go a while without knowing when or where we will have our next clinical. A lot of us have jobs so understandable, but just giving you a heads up

661 is clinical; 661K is skills lab.

Clinical is one day per week, usually 7am to 3pm. There are some evening clinicals, so 3pm to midnight, but that's usually only one out of all the sites. The current cohort did NOT have a choice during your first semester — USF just assigned us each to a group and a site, and there was no possibility to appeal it except for a religious exemption (one student got moved from the Friday night clinical shift for religious reasons).

661K is 3 hours per week on USF campus. It can be basically any 3 hour block M-F. For example, some this semester are 5-8pm on Tuesday and Wednesday.

**all of this can change up until the last minute, in particular the clinical sites as the hospitals may pull out. It's rare, and the school really does try to ensure it won't happen.

thank you very much for this information. just to clarify, does that mean I will have two days of teaching classes and then one day of either my clinical and/or skills lab, so 3 days in total? I was expecting 4, so that would be great news.

Hiiii, to clarify your question you should plan to be in person 4 days a week. Two days of lecture, one day for skills lab, and one day of clinical.

For all the people that got in, what's your advice for someone planning to apply for their applications to stand out
