Hey everybody,

I didn't see a thread yet for the Summer 2013 cohort for USF Masters Clinical Nurse Leader Program so I decided to make one. The application deadline is coming up and figured it would be great to meet fellow applicants and stress out together haha

Yes I agree with mailnurse, you want multiple pairs of white scrubs. I had three pairs. You'll probably want to go to the scrub store and try them on because different brands fit differently depending on your body type. Not that white scrubs are flattering, but you'll see what I mean because for long, shifts, you want to be comfortable. But, like i said in some of my earlier posts, I wouldn't worry about scrubs and shoes right now. You don't have clinical until your second semester.

Oh, I know - it's just fun, after all this time doing prereqs, to think about looking like a nurse. :nurse:;)

I think the forum removed a link I left in one of my comments - it was to a list of medical abbreviations. I found it by googling "commonly used medical abbreviations". There are plenty of websites with that information. They're good to know.

I just called admissions for those still waiting they are still reviewing application. They have admitted about 30 students. So I guess there are 10 seats still available. Hope this is good news.

Also. On my end she told me my application hasn't been reviewed. X_x

Hey guys,

Some updated info for you in regard to the comment by DAS. You will actually have a clinical in your first semester. It is something new that they started with the most recent cohort that came in January.

Thanks for the update @sengcreative! I hope they will be done by the end of this week.

Hi Everyone,

Congratulations to everyone who received a call! I am patiently waiting to find out if I will be accepted. I run to the mailbox, check my cellphone and emails frequently. Thank you 'sengcreative' for contacting Office of Admissions and for providing us with an update. Since there are 10 spaces available, I have hope. Your post put a huge smile on my face. :D

I have a question for those of you who received a phone call. Did you directly speak with someone or did you have a voice message on your voicemail box? I am asking because in the event I can not answer the phone or if I miss their call, I am wondering if the person will leave message for me with the good news or will they attempt to reach me the following day? Was the phone call from a 415 area code or unknown number? I am asking because I want to definitely answer the call in the event I am at work.

In the event anyone applied for financial aid, can you tell me if the money is immediately available to cover the tuition and initial fees and the down payment?

I wasn't able to pick up so they left me a voicemail about my acceptance. My coworker also got accepted, however they didn't tell her that in the voicemail, they just told her to call them back. They also call with a 415 area code number.

They left me a message because I didn't answer the phone (heard it ringing, but I had already decided I hadn't been accepted).

Ingrid. Thanks for adding me as a friend. Keeping hammering away. Again any questions just ask. I am very sincere about answering questions.

I wanted to address the Financial Aid question. Be sure that your FAFSA is filled out and ready to go. Do not worry about paying fees immediately as the FA office will communicate with the admissions office and it will be all worked out. Do keep on top of the FA office about your FA, and make sure the address it in a timely manner. They will help you. You most likely won't find out about your FA offer until after your orientation. If you hear before great, if not....definitely get on them. I would also recommend getting your clinical ID and your student ID on the day of orientation. Just get it out of the way. If you live in SF and are planning on using MUNI, make sure you get your Muni pass before the deadline as there is not way to get it after. I am not sure what your deadline is, but they will tell you. I hope this helps.

Thank you for addressing the Financial Aid question. I applied for financial aid in March by the March 2nd deadline. I have not been accepted to USF yet. I was told everyone will know by the end of April. Today is the end of April and I have not heard or received anything as of yet. Sigh. I have noticed a pattern...USF notify people at the end of the week, usually on a Friday. My paws are crossed as I hope I receive a call this Friday. The orientation is in two weeks. The program starts a few days later. I am feeling a bit anxious yet, I am thinking positive thoughts and meditating as much as I can. Thank you 'mailnursetobe' for your responses.

I have a question for those of you who are in the program. I understand USF's MSN program prepare students to take the NCLEX. Once the student pass the exam, we can move forward with the courses that will prepare students to sit for the CNL examination correct? Will we get an official Master's degree when we complete the program at the end of the two years regardless if we take the exam or pass the exam? In other words, when will we get the Master's degree and when will we get the CNL certification? If a student does not pass the CNL certification exam how soon do we have to wait before we repeat the test? Will students be prepared to take the CNL exam at the end of the program or is it recommended we work as an RN then take the exam?

'mailnursetobe' you mentioned USF has a 95% NCLEX pass rate which is great. How about CNL pass rate?

Thank you once again for taking time to reply to our questions.

We get a Muni pass?!?! Wow!
