University of San Francisco CNL Entry Masters

Did anyone else apply to the University of San Francisco Entry Masters program for Summer '09? How do the notifications go out? Anyone accepted or rejected yet? I just submitted my app 2 weeks ago. Any info on this school including competitiveness would be helpful. I have 3.57 undergrad GPA, 4.0 science pre-reqs, clinical experience. Thanks!

Hi there,

Samuel Merritt's ABSN program runs about $53k and it is a 1 year program (I applied to Samuel Merritt in addition to USF's CNL-ME program). Samuel Merritt also offers entry level graduate nursing programs for FNP and Case Mgmt at $967/unit (FNP program is 113 units, so about $110k!)

Does anyone know when we will hear back from USF re Summer entry? Do they notify you via email or postal mail?

Hey, isn't the MSN an advanced practice nursing degree or no? A little confused.

Though the MSN is a graduate degree and therefore an advanced degree, the MSN CNL (program offered at USF, UCLA MECN, among others) is not considered an advanced practice degree. It's considered advanced generalist. My understanding is that, functionally, a previous non nurse coming out of USF's MSN CNL program would be a staff nurse, though would probably be able to advance more quickly, or may be a more desirable candidate than a BSN, all things being equal. In reviewing job postings, many staff nurse postings read "BSN, MSN preferred." So, that may be the edge, but it's definitely not an advanced practice designation, one would have to continue with a post master's certificate to be considered advanced practice.

Has anyone received an email from USF, inviting you to join them for an online chat (for admitted student)?

Key word: admitted students

Have those who been accepted receive a similar email? I am just curious to know if this email leaked too early; because I haven't received a letter yet.

Anybody know when we are hearing back? When I asked, they said by the end of the month. But last year, it sounded like they told people around March 19th. And it sounds like some people may have (accidentally) heard already.... :confused:

Hi everyone :)

I was told we will receive notifications anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks after the due date (2/15). So, could be as early as March 15th! I didn't get the email about the online chat...that is interesting. How many people did they send the email to?

Yea, thank you. I just received an email from the MSN CNL coordinator saying "end of the month" for notifications, but I suspect it will be sometime toward the end of next week (if they're true to form with last year's timing). Not much longer ...

Here's the update:

Letters were sent out this past Friday, so we all should be receiving them shortly.
