University of Rochester Accelerated Nursing Program - ABPNN

Published

I just got accepted into U of R's accelerated bachelors nursing program. Just wanted to start a thread to see who else is going there!

Oh wow that's horrible! It's more of a conversation than an interview. I have an interview in august with Regis University as well. Hopefully it will be better for me. Again good luck!

Hi all, i just joined today. I also had an interview today for ABPNN Fall2012. I was too nervous. i was also asked the same questions as SON14. lets hope for best SON14.

Hi harmonyCali,

How do you think you did? Were you also interviewed by Prof. ****? I just hope I didn't mess it up. I'm also from California :)

Hi Syberian,

How is U of R? How was your summer? I decided to apply to several other schools and am going to attend next summer. So how do u like U of R and how are the professors? Wish you the best.

Hello everyone!!!!

How are you doing? I am applying for summer programs and the spring semester at U ofR.

Hi URhopeful,

Have you had your interview already? For this fall were you placed on the waitinglist?

Hi all,

I've been lurking on these forums for a while, so I wanted to contribute my experience.

I had a phone interview with ***** for the spring 2012 cohort. It lasted approximately 45 minutes, and the questions asked were as follows:

1) how did you go from engineering to nursing?

2) why nursing?

3) what makes you a good fit for our program?

4) do you plan on working while enrolled as a student?

5) what healthcare experiences do you have?

It was a very casual interview, laid back enough as she discussed how she met her husband at a local restaurant I frequented while I was an undergrad many years ago. After the questions and small chit chat, she indicated that interviewers make notes on the interviewee with either "positive interview," "recommends," or "highly recommends.". At least that was the progression she used with me throughout my interview. Jokingly, i asked if the fact that I am a UR alum meant anything, and she said it should count for something.

She then went on to describe the next steps in the process. Mainly that each candidates' file goes on for further review to a committee of three staff/faculty members. Each member rates the whole application holistically on a scale of 1-10, and the average score is assigned to the candidate. Each application cycle, they determine (I don't know how) what the minimum cutoff score will be. If you're above it, then congratulations, you're in!

She gave me a timeframe of late September, similar to what everyone else here is reporting. She did mention the wait list option as well, and indicated that they do pull candidates off it frequently. Unfortunately, she did not quantify her statement. When asked if there was anything to do increase my chances, she told me to get all A's in my pre-req classes, something I am on track to do, but will likely end up pulling my hair out over. I'm working full time, and am taking for four classes, all in an accelerated format. A&P2, statistics, nutrition, and growth and development.

Well, that was my first, and hopefully very informative post, in an effort to help those going through the application process. Let me know if you have any questions. Either about the school, the area, places to live, where to buy groceries, the best place for wings and a microbrew, and whether you'll need tire chains for your car in the winter. Kidding.

Peace.

Hi SON14,

I actually applied for the fall for the ampnn and went through the interview then. I recieve admission to the ABPNN, and decided to try again for the Spring. I am not sure if I am required to interview again. How are you doing and what program are you applying for? I have actually applied to 9 schools in total this time instead of just U of R, but still am hoping to get into U of R. Thank for the welcome and talk to you soon.

Oh nice. It is good to keep your options open. I also applied to UMDNJ and got accepted but decided to decline and I have an interview in August for Regis University. What other schools dis you apply to? So for the Spring 2012 cohort you are applying for the bachelors or masters again?

Thank you URredux for providing such a useful information.
