I just got accepted into U of R's accelerated bachelors nursing program. Just wanted to start a thread to see who else is going there!

Hi Ali,
I am sorry i did not ask the question clearly. I have completed all my pre-requistes for U of R except for Micro which I plan on taking this summer. I was just wondering if you had finished all your pre-requistes not the grades. You sound like you are a great candidate.
Oh haha, sorry um I'm actually finishing up microbiology at UB right now, my advice would be to take it at a community college, the tests are pretty hard here.
Hi Ali, I am finishing my last semester at UB also. What a coincidence. I am taking SSC 213 research methods, SSC 218 issues in mental health, SSC 320 issus in MR/DD and two internships at UB. Thanks for the advice. I will definitely take micro at ECC instead. Take care.

Ali - thanks. You can't reply to PMs until you have 15 posts. I forgot about that. I have a C in Organic Chemistry
URHopeful - I'm a guy!
I wish I had taken my pre-reqs at a CC. I have a 3.7 in my pre-reqs, but if CC are given the same weight, I would have rather done it that way - it would have been a lot easier (I think?).

Hi Syberian Puppy,
Glad I am not the only guy applying. I wish I would have thought about CC earlier as well. I did not know that they woud except CC course. Good to know for Micro. I hope we both here about an interview soon.

Yeah me too (to both)! Good luck to both of us
How old are you, btw?
Hi ,
haha I can't keep up with all your posts. As soon as I got to reply someone pops up another post.
Thought I'd chime in again. I don't think stats aren't everything. I was accepted into the program, 256 applicants for my cohort. Grades weren't near a 3.9. I think I had a 3.1 in my BS degree. I had only previously taken one prereq - statistics - before applying. I was in the process of taking 3 of the 5 needed classes when I interviewed. After the interview I let them know that I completed them, and what my grades were. I had a really good essay I think, and the interview went great. Standard questions about why I wanted to be a nurse, what brought me to where I am...that kind of thing. They know that you're 3.9 GPA will likely turn into a 3.5 or perhaps even lower in this program. In fact, to go into the masters from this particular program, they accept as low as a 2.5.
I interviewed with one of the head people of admissions. It was a very casual feel for an interview. Much more conversational than I expected. I got the impression they are looking for diversity. They mentioned that some previous students had degrees in agriculture and farming. Pretty diverse group.
Not everyone in my class came to nursing because it was a calling or their one and only passion. Sure it might be better if it was, but some were influenced by previous experiences with healthcare or nursing. I know someone who went through the program as more of a business decision. Steady work, decent pay, diversity of the work, opportunity for advancement. They also want leaders. They want people who they feel will succeed, and who they foresee as going into nursing, and pursuing advanced degrees or positions in management or both. They talk a lot about leadership in this program. They are looking to put out good nurses, but also future nursing leaders. Healthcare experience is great, but the large majority of my class had never done hands on care before. I had previous management experience so we discussed how some of my management skills would be useful in a nursing career.
The big questions to answer for yourself and think about for the interview. Why Nursing, why now, why UofR, and why you.
Hope that helps. Good luck everyone!
I am 33. I also hope I am not the only older student also. lol
No, I hear there are a lot of older students (not that you're older!)
Ansaguy - thanks so much for that long post! :) Very helpful. You say you had a 3.1? I hope I can get in with my ~3.4ish GPA. There are over 400 apps this year, so almost double your year though.
