University of Rochester Accelerated Nursing Program - ABPNN

Published

I just got accepted into U of R's accelerated bachelors nursing program. Just wanted to start a thread to see who else is going there!

Hi Samanthal-

I would love to hear your thoughts once you have seen the place (or any other housemate type situations). My only concern with the "white coat ghetto," while it is super convenient to school and the hospital, is hearing that it isn't really near anything else (like grocery stores). I guess not having a car I'm going to have to figure out how much hoofing/busing I am willing to do... ugh.

Lara

Hi, I am wondering if either of you are still looking for housemates? I've been looking at houses and trying to figure it all out! Please let me know. Thanks!

Hi Christina-

I took a room in a house in the "white coat ghetto" that is virtually across the street from the hospital and nursing school.

I am renting through http://www.studenthousingrochester.com. This landlord owns a bunch of large houses in the area that are rented out on a room by room basis to med, nursing and Ph.D students. Most of the rooms have their own bathrooms and are pretty large. From what I have been told, the area doesn't have a lot of stuff to do (stores, restaurants etc), but without a car, I had to choose between slightly cheaper rent in a more "happening" area and the convenience of being able to roll out of bed at 6:30 and still be on time to a 7am clinical. If you do go on craigslist to look for places, look for listings that have UR/Strong as the area. If you are willing to take a chance on the bus, Mt. Hope, South Wedge and some parts of Park Ave/NOTA are options. If you find somewhere you're interested in, you can map the trip on http://infoweb.rgrta.com/hiwire to see how long the trip would take. Natalie, the creator of our classes facebook page, was a great source of info on Rochester to me and can probably give you even more to work from. BTW, where in northern california are you coming from? I'm originally from the Bay Area.

Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone knew how many people U of R is going to interview out of the 300 and so applicants. I know the admissions office said they are trying something different for this fall 2011 applicants and only interviewing selected candidates. I hope every well and good luck to all.:D

Hi Christina

I am glad Lara decided to look for housing SO close to school. Will REALLY pay off when we have to roll out of bed at 6:30 and walk across street in the Rochester winters! I did get to see the address of this cute house where nurses are living in presently. But no one was home to show to me :crying2: (The pictures look nice at the website. See what you think. :) You would def. want to find something close, coming from so far....will you be driving or renting a car? ...We'll still be neighbors Rochester’s Home For Students!!

Hey everyone - I actually called Rochester and asked them a few questions about admissions. They said they received well over 400 apps. Still 56 spots Total.

Do the math = 14% acceptance rate

Oh god, that makes me super nervous, did they say when they'd been sending out decisions?

Well we have to interview first..but admissions would be mailed late May or early June.

Hi guys, I am applying for the fall ampnn and I called to ask when they will be interviewing. They told me that they will start contacting for interview in about two weeks. I am crossing my fingers for an interview. I spoke with someone who had graduated from this program and she told me that they rely a lot on grads as a guide. I think your GPA with be the determining factor of whether or not you will get an interview. I think they are going to interview less than half of the applicants. I guess the good news is that if you get an interview, your probability of getting accepting increases dramatically.

Thanks Syberianpuppy for letting us know the time line for when we will find out. Best Wishes. Are you applying for the abpnn or ampnn? What concentration did you apply for?

Hey URHopeful,

I applied to the ABPNN program. Where did you get that statistic of interviewing less than half? When I called and asked they said it would be much more than half. I'm under the impression they are interviewing a lot of applicants, and simply not interviewing the ones that have NO chance to avoid wasting time.

I think anyone with decent stats could get an interview, but I could be wrong. I hope we both get one! Good luck!

Also, we should all post our stats to get an idea of what the applicants are like this cycle!

Hi Syberianpuppy,

She did not give me any statistics, however, she stated that last year they interviewed 300 applicants and that was way too many to interview and that they would interview not nearly as much. My academic profile is that I have a 3.924 GPA and a 4.000 in my pre-requisites. I am not sure what else you would like to know, but please feel free to ask away. I hope this helps and best wishes. My fingers are crossed fo rall of us to recieve an interview.

I PMed you URhopeful!

And my stats are: 3.4 GPA, 3.7 pre-req GPA

:( Makes me nervous. I hope not everyone has a 4.0 (essentially) like you do.
