University of Rochester Accelerated Nursing Program - ABPNN

U.S.A. New York

I just got accepted into U of R's accelerated bachelors nursing program. Just wanted to start a thread to see who else is going there!

Aalya, Thanks so much for your message! The information you've given me is very insightful. I wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide to do after you finish the BSN.

If I can ask one more question...how do you and your classmates get shadowing opportunities?

Hello!! I am also in the May 2010 program! :-) YAY! Is anyone still looking for a place to live/ a roommate? Let me know!

One more thing. don't be that person/avoid that person who ONLY and ALWAYS talks about nursing school. Those people get super annoying and add to your stress levels :p

Shadowing is the equivalent to a job interview. When you see a job you are interested in you contact the nurse recruitment office and tell them you would like to interview on that floor. You shadow the unit for ~4 hours and then you have the formal interview with the nurse manager. It's a nice way of doing things, I really like it. Some hospitals have this some don't.

Hi guys,

I just went through an interview for ROC for the incoming Jan 2011 class, and was told I wouldn't be able to

hear back till September. 2+ months of waiting is a little nerve wrecking. I was wondering if anyone else received an interview, and for those accepted how long did it take to get back to you?

I wonder if they give the September timeline to the not as strong applicants :-/

Hey, my application packet just got delivered today. I may have to call them though because online it said the transcript was received but then next to the specific school it said Not Received...so I'll just have to make sure everything is good to go! How long did it take for you to have your interview scheduled? I think that everybody hears back in September (but I'm not entirely sure?), so I'm sure that you have nothing to worry about.

nycClara, Congrats on completing your interview! My interview is mid-July for the Jan 2011 cohort. I have been doing my research, but do you have any tips/advice on what questions will be asked and how I can prepare for the interview? Anything helps! =)

mbmnc, I turned in my application June 21st, and received a call June 24th to schedule an interview mid-July. They said they wanted to schedule the interviews now so that they dont fall behind with all the applications they receive. I'll let you know how it works out. =)

(CSy),

Yeah everything worked out okay and I have an interview in about a week and a half! I hope that your interview goes well! I'll post any updates I hear :)

Hey CSy, and mbmnc

congrats on getting your interviews scheduled!! Sorry for taking so long to get back to you guys. I actually handed my appl way back in march as I was applying to other schools too. It took a while for them to get back to me. I could have been one of the first to be interviewed.

As for the interview it's pretty relaxed and straight to the point. The faulty member I spoke with asked me general questions about nursing-- why nursing, why their program, a bit about my working history/past. She was really sweet which is good and bad cause I was at east but at the same time I couldn't read her at all..lol..if she liked me or not. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you guys. Pls update if you guys hear anything to!

Hi all! Just updating after my interview. Here is what I was told...they are NOT accepting 100 students like they have done so in the past. They will only be accepting around 55! :uhoh3: They are lessening the acceptances because instead of 2 cohorts a year, it will be 3 (Jan, May, and Sept) which is good and bad... Lastly, I was told that they will be notifying those accepted/waitlisted/rejected around September, but the latest would be early October. My chances look slim...but goodluck to everyone! =)

Also from my interview, the faculty member was very relaxed (tho I was completely nervous:redbeathe). She just asked me one question, about my past and how it led me to become a nurse. She did a lot of the talking. Hope it all works out for us!

Specializes in ER/ICU.

Thanks, CSy!

My interview is scheduled on 2 August. I'm so nervous...

It is totally unexpected thing that they will accept only 55. Wow...

Anyway! good luck to everyone!! =)
