University of Rochester ABPNN Spring 2021 (January) Start

Published

Hello all. I did not see another posting for those of us applying to the U of R SON ABPNN. Has anyone submitted their application yet?

Yup, we can use the same material for next.

Hi there!

I applied for the Fall 2020 cohort, and due to May 2020 being pushed to Fall I also got waitlisted and there were about 80 people on waitliat then. I waited until the week before the next application was due just so I can stay on wait list as long as possible. I just told them to forward my old letters of recommendation and resubmitted my PS as I thought if I could improve chances that is where it would be.

Additionally, I contacted them the day after receiving decisions and they connected me with someone who can talk more about the app and give advice so I'd highly recommend this. She also said I can add supplemental things to my app such as an extra PS, but I stuck to the word limit and just expanded on my views in my interview. I thought it would be hard transitioning from one personal statement with a prompt to a PS that felt like a free for all personally. But know that each person is different so what worked for some may not for others, but I appreciated the ability to include supplemental items.

It was a tough time emotionally, but don't forget your worth.

Hey, Thankyou for letting us know about that, it is indeed helpful to listen from someone who've been through same experience . Can you please tell me what supplemental items did you include? And did you rewrite your whole statement? If yes, then was it completely different than the first one?

Of course,

I updated my personal statement to reiterate my future goals and commitment to diversity. I used the same personal and professional experiences but made the connection of how these experiences helped shape and assist in reaching my goal. For me, I was raised in the US but also experienced a totally different Healthcare system when I lived in Bosnia. Through that it inspired me to pursue nursing and commit to transforming Healthcare accessibility personally. Overall, my personal statements were similar in message and content, but different execution if that makes sense

I also updated my resume, but only because I had a new experience to add, but I don't think it necessarily assisted much.

I didn't include any supplement in the end that the person I spoke with suggested, only because I felt that it personally wouldn't work for me. However, I would highly encourage reaching out to admissions and ask to be connected to someone who can offer you feedback!

Lastly, do not think that you do not deserve a spot. If anything, resilience is key and if nursing and this school is your goal then you will get in. I saw people with low and high gpas get into Fall cohort and people with some or no healthcare experience, so I truly believe it comes down to selling yourself well and reiterating these goals through your PS and interview. It was a hard pill for me to swallow at first since I thought I was similar app wise to my sister who got in and just finished, but I can say that try your best not to let this moment hurt you. Everything is a learning experience, and don't ever doubt and start thinking that you're under qualified or have no chance. I have been there, but I realized soon that it was important to me not to lose sight of what I wanted to become.

If you have any questions or need a rant, I'm here. I have been waitlisted for Fall as well, but fortunately things worked out. I can completely understand what others are going through, and I also know some who got in on their third try so don't give up!

I apologize for any typos, a bit tricky on the phone.

Yup, your comment is truly uplifting, and honestly people like you are truly inspiring who don't give up n inspire others with their experience. N I also believe that one judgement shouldn't define you for not being deserving enough to be in nursing school, as long as you want it, one should keep trying. N I am ready to keep trying. Best of luck to you n everyone who got in.

I was also waitlisted! I feel lucky to make it so far in the application process :) CONGRATS to everyone who just got acceptances!

Did anyone who got accepted got a scholarship?

I got one. School is still really expensive though...

The deadline to accept your place is tomorrow. Who's enrolling?

Im enrolling ?

I am as well.

CONGRATS! Nice to meet my future classmates ?
