University of Rochester ABPNN Spring 2021 (January) Start
Has anyone heard back from the school yet for next steps or financial aid? Additionally, is there a facebook group for this cohort by any chance? Hope everyone is doing well!

University of Rochester ABPNN Spring 2021 (January) Start
Of course, I updated my personal statement to reiterate my future goals and commitment to diversity. I used the same personal and professional experiences but made the connection of how these experiences helped shape and assist in reaching my goal. For me, I was raised in the US but also experienced a totally different Healthcare system when I lived in Bosnia. Through that it inspired me to pursue nursing and commit to transforming Healthcare accessibility personally. Overall, my personal statements were similar in message and content, but different execution if that makes sense I also updated my resume, but only because I had a new experience to add, but I don't think it necessarily assisted much. I didn't include any supplement in the end that the person I spoke with suggested, only because I felt that it personally wouldn't work for me. However, I would highly encourage reaching out to admissions and ask to be connected to someone who can offer you feedback! Lastly, do not think that you do not deserve a spot. If anything, resilience is key and if nursing and this school is your goal then you will get in. I saw people with low and high gpas get into Fall cohort and people with some or no healthcare experience, so I truly believe it comes down to selling yourself well and reiterating these goals through your PS and interview. It was a hard pill for me to swallow at first since I thought I was similar app wise to my sister who got in and just finished, but I can say that try your best not to let this moment hurt you. Everything is a learning experience, and don't ever doubt and start thinking that you're under qualified or have no chance. I have been there, but I realized soon that it was important to me not to lose sight of what I wanted to become. If you have any questions or need a rant, I'm here. I have been waitlisted for Fall as well, but fortunately things worked out. I can completely understand what others are going through, and I also know some who got in on their third try so don't give up! I apologize for any typos, a bit tricky on the phone.

University of Rochester ABPNN Spring 2021 (January) Start
Hi there! I applied for the Fall 2020 cohort, and due to May 2020 being pushed to Fall I also got waitlisted and there were about 80 people on waitliat then. I waited until the week before the next application was due just so I can stay on wait list as long as possible. I just told them to forward my old letters of recommendation and resubmitted my PS as I thought if I could improve chances that is where it would be. Additionally, I contacted them the day after receiving decisions and they connected me with someone who can talk more about the app and give advice so I'd highly recommend this. She also said I can add supplemental things to my app such as an extra PS, but I stuck to the word limit and just expanded on my views in my interview. I thought it would be hard transitioning from one personal statement with a prompt to a PS that felt like a free for all personally. But know that each person is different so what worked for some may not for others, but I appreciated the ability to include supplemental items. It was a tough time emotionally, but don't forget your worth.

Hi there! I know it’s been a while since acceptances, but first I just wanted to say congratulations! I know that you’ll learn so much from this school and the start date is creeping by soon! I was curious if there’s a specific part in your application that you felt like you had a strongpoint? Whether it was LORs, personal statement or interview? I’m contemplating what to change on my app or if to make any changes at all and just hope to do good on the interview. I feel pretty happy with my statement, but at the same time I don’t know what to change considering two months doesn’t allow for big changes in terms of experience or classes. thanks and if you have any questions, I know someone in the program that can maybe help you put!

Is anyone reapplying for Winter Start? If so, are you going to resubmit your current app or make any changes? I’ve been contemplating this whole time what to do or to just resubmit what I already had. Between May when we got our acceptances/denials and July 1st, there’s very little one can do in terms of making themselves more competitive. I thought about more letters of rec but with covid and such a short notice, I decided against it. Now I’m wondering whether to change my resume and PS. tbh, I’m also wondering if they’ll be a January start given that another surge is expected. I was told it’s planned, but there’s no guarantee that it could not happen or that Fall will start in fall rather than being pushed to January.

I’m surprised by this technically about 65 seats were taken due to the May cohort being pushed to start in the fall. I wish they would have then just offered us a January start instead of just taking about 15 people from our pool of 400 and waitlisting 80 of us.

I also spoke with them. All they said is we can waitlist or defer our app to January start. However, they also said that we cannot stay on the waitlist and apply to January, but I still have to confirm with one more person. I'm honestly losing hope on thisnwaitlist. One person got in three days before the start so now it’s like gambling

Thanks for your support. It truly means everything. Slowly I’ll come to terms with this and everything happens for a reason

My sibling is in the program currently. The admissions office changed so they accidentally sent out more acceptances than they were supposed to for fall 2019. They didn’t expect everyone to say yes so they had to accept the larger cohort. its hard obviously but it’s a great program. Whenever I visited the school looked great and my sibling has learned so much. I'm just upset because I never saw this big of waitlist before so I don’t understand their reasoning for this. I got into schools I didn’t think I could get into, but this was my first choice since I have a feel for what the school is like. However I’m not ready to move to Chicago right now without support, and with the lack of work from covid. Rochester would have been perfect since it’s not so busy and I’d have housing ready for me. Good luck to everyone! I’ll update on what the school says when I call tomorrow.

I’m definitely going to call to see. If it ends up being that they had too little seats because of May being pushed to Fall, then I’m truly going to try and be pushy to let us at least start in January. I mean, if there’s not enough seats according to the waitlist letter, we all know it’s because they decided to postpone the May cohort, and I think that’s an unfair disadvantage. Especially considering they made this decision AFTER we submitted our applications for Fall. I would have liked to have known my chances were fair, but if it’s down to us competing for 20 seats due to May being pushed vs the amount that’s actually meant for the cohort we applied then I’d be disappointed. I understand everything is changing because of covid, but I don’t think it’s too much to ask to have waitlisted start in January. We weren’t deemed “bad” on the waitlist letter so it wouldn’t make sense. Additionally, the app for January is due July 1st and IDK how that will work if we’re on the waitlist indefinitely.

I know a few people in the Fall 2019 cohort that said this. Additionally, the person who interviewed me told me they accidentally did it and this lead to a larger class size Fall 2019. congratulations to getting in! It’s truly a great program and I wish you all the best ?

Got waitlisted. my stats are Anatomy A physio lecture B physio lab B+ Micro lecture B Micro lab A Stats A nutrition A cumulative GPA 3.53 I don’t feel hopeful with this waitlist. Last fall they accidentally sent out more acceptances than normal thinking people would reject but no one did, so it backfired on them so they had to increase the size. Assuming a lot of the May cohort that got postponed will probably decide to start in Fall instead of Winter, I’m losing hope. I’m hoping is waitlist can at least get the option to start January but the email was brief and I couldn’t decipher if that’d be an option. this was my first choice school and I sometimes feel like this is all a lottery. I got into schools I didn’t think I’d have chance, but this one hit harder.

Rush University GEM Program Fall 2020
Just wanted to give heads up to those waiting and who think it may be impossible to get off waitlist. I got off the waitlist today, and I was initially number 28 on the list. With corona and everything going on I think we can assume more people will get off the waitlist. As for me, I’m excited that I got in but I don’t think I’ll go considering everything that’s going on currently, I don’t feel prepared to move from California — just as a heads up to those still on the waitlist. best of luck to everyone — this program looks great! ?
