University of Pittsburgh CRNA 2020

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Hi everyone,

I created this feed for nurses applying to or already accepted to the CRNA program at Pitt that begins January 2020. Has anyone submitted their application yet? Has anyone received a call for interviews? I know it is early in the process but waiting is so hard. If you feel comfortable posting stats, please feel free. Hope to hear from some nurses soon.

I was rejected this morning. I don’t think I am to wait and be considered against the other applicants in May either.

I’m sorry to hear this! Keep trying and you’ll find a spot somewhere your meant to be.

neurorn725,

classes do remain two days week in the summer and I believe they are two days week for the rest of the program, until later when you are doing mostly only clinical. You follow the same schedule as the school until you start clinical. Then you are giving a set number of vacation days each year that you request off for(can earn more) until the end of the program. So really only the first two semesters follow the same as the school. Unsure about the fall you start clinical midway through the semester and is only a few days a week.

Only the anesthesia books are on the online library, but most of classes that aren't anesthesia don't require textbooks. They can be downloaded to computer and function just the same as offline e-book.

Srna0001,

hey thanks for getting back to me on all of that, it’s super helpful! One more question for you- did you take any of the classes in advance before starting the program in person in January?

spring/summer(year-1) is 2 days a week. Fall(year-1) is 3 days with "lab days" that they throw in there. Fall you have something almost every day M-F. The class follows the school schedule but you do clinical during the breaks 5 days a week unless you use vacation days. You get 15 days vacation, 5 days sick for semesters 3-5 and the same amount for the semester 6-8. Vacation days are use or loss, sick days can be carried over. You can also earn "comp days" that are extra-off days.

Hi! Is anyone taking classes prior to starting in January? And students in school already, what do you suggest, my letter says I have decide by early May. Thanks for the suggestions and input!

Sorry didn’t mean to repeat post

Specializes in MICU and Level 1 Trauma ER.

Hello!

I am currently applying to Pitt's CRNA program for Jan 2020 start date. Does anyone know when they start calling for the last round of interviews? I just sent in my application.. A little nervous about getting an interview because my GRE scores weren't as high as I hoped for. My total score was 299. But I also have a 3.89 undergrad GPA with experience in Med/Surg, a level I trauma ER for about 1 1/2 years and in the MICU for 1 year and couple months by the start date.. At this point I can just hope for the best! Does anyone know how many students they already accepted?

I know of at least 4 of us that were accepted that posted on this website. I’m sure there are a few more that are not aware of this site that got in also. Some people have been told to wait till the next round of interviews to know if they got in. Your application seems good except your GRE might be low. I’m not positive about this but I think they only interview if you have at least a 300. I hope I’m wrong!

I'm taking the first statistics course online over the summer.

I have a couple more questions for the current students.. I know some programs have dedicated neuroanatomy courses but Pitt doesn’t.. do you feel like you got all you needed in terms of anatomy material?

Also, how do you prepare for clinical at most sites? Are you able to look up your patients from home the night before or do you have to go to the hospital the night before to get your assignment?

And are any lectures recorded for you? If not, are you allowed to record them to review?

Does anyone recall what the process was for after the second round of interviews? I got the wait list email after my interview and the struggle has been real.

I just know that deadline May 1st. Will schedule interviews after they review all the submissions. For our sake, hopefully not that many applied. Then whoever hits the certain score for automatic acceptance will be notified. After that everyone that was waitlisted will be in a pile and I believe they will fill the remaining slots with the top scores however many that is. I could be wrong but that is what is seems like it will be.
