Hi All,
I'm new to this site and to the field of nursing. Has anyone gone to this school and if so, what did you think?
I live in San Diego, CA, and there is an online program that this school offers. I'm 3 prerequisites away from applying to the school, with a start date of August 08. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Nicole
Yeah, that's good news! Let's meet in front 15 minutes before 3pm so we can chat! Nicole
I'll be there!
I also agree that the alternates should attend, if you happen to be on the fence. I wasn't even invited to an orientation at the other university I got put on the waiting list for... bummer. But I definitely would've gone if we were allowed to. You just never know when they'll call. :)
See everyone on Wednesday, I'm so excited!!!
Okay,
Possibly some MORE good news for the Alternates. I've the phone all day regarding the NSLDS issue. Even tried a three-way call with OU Financial Aid and the Dept of Education....it's quite frustrating for everyone. It looks like it's going to take me a little more time to get this all straightened out. I'm also working on a full, privately-funded scholarship with a separate entity here in town. That also will take some time, but because of the late notice of acceptance, blah, blah blah it is in my best interest to postpone starting the program. Hey, if I can get the whole thing paid for, by postponing school for 4 months, why not?!
I spoke with the "powers that be" at OU and have been reassurred that, under the circumstance-which are of no fault of my own, they MAY be able to push my back my start date to January '09 instead of this Fall so that this whole mess can be worked out. There are other issues as well which contribute to their consideration that I don't need to go into here. But if they DO decide to grant my request, it would be highly unusual, so please don't anybody read this and then get upset if they cannot do the same for you in your situation.
I am waiting to hear, hopefully, by tomorrow. But I got a really good vibe and from what was told to me it shouldn't be a problem---again, under the circumstances.
I'd be SO happy if I can postpone things. I've been under so much stress between school, work, health issues and FAFSA that having a four month break would just be perfect for me!
So, it looks like there's going to be at least, "two-down" and the Alternates are slowly moving up the list! I want you all to know that this is my decision and if approved by OU, it would really be a blessing for me. So don't feel bad or guilty for being happy that you're moving up the list!
I'm still going to attend the orientation, just so that I've some idea of what to expect in Jan. OH....btw...On Wednesday, you'll be asked to pay for your books ($1,200) by credit card and $115 for the nurses' bag. If you don't have the avail credit for the books, you will have to pay for them separately and seek them out yourself. You'll be given a list of required books. Alexandra said that sometimes, the books can be found on Amazon at a discount.
Crazy that Kennessa if off today! Getting this information about the actual costs due on Wed was a feat.
I'll post just as soon as I know what's going to happen about changing start dates. I KNOW everything's going to work out!
Thanks BoogeysMom!
The decision to postpone is not final, so we'll all have to wait and see.
Don't want to come off as "wishy-washy" if everything suddenly falls into place, but I really WOULD like to take a break. But, if it means that I would lose my acceptance, entirely, then I'm not sure if I'd want to "take my chances" in the next pool of applicants.
Boy, my planned trip to Costa Rica next month can't happen soon enough!

Totally understand that!
Ahhh, Costa Rica! Nice.
DH and I are planning to go back to Hawaii before school starts, just b/c it'll be a looong time before I can do that again. We weren't planning to go this year and collectively decided to wait till next summer, but with school now, it sounds like we're gonna need a little vacay beforehand. :)
Hi Everyone,
I was so excited to find this thread! I will be at the open house tomorrow--and for you ladies who may be unable to attend because of travel plans, I will be happy to share all of my notes and info with you.
I look forward to meeting all of you! Ill find a red ribbon too.
P.S. I am currently living in Orange County and am looking to move closer to the program--any suggestions for location? I don't know San Diego well at all.
Thanks!!:nuke:

So I just got an email from Kennessa with all the electronic book info... I'm actually really tempted to get it, just b/c it includes the electronic and hard copy versions of the book... Since I'll be living part time in one house closer to SD, and part time in our home in Temecula, it might be a good idea for me to have all the book info on my laptop, vs big old heavy books... i dunno... that book list is LOOOOONG.
I'm seriously considering buying the book package tomorrow, too. I'm not sure how much could be saved buying the books on amazon or something like that, and I think that it would be convenient to have the books both electronically and in hard copy. My boyfriend raised a good point - what if you lost a book? How great would it be to have it electronically? I don't know...in all honestly, I think I'm tempted to buy the package because it seems like so much less of a hassle than to search for them on my own...Probably not the best of reasons!

I looked up all the books on the list and added them to my amazon cart and the total was just under $800. DH said, oh just buy the electronic one b/c you'll regret not getting it later and its convenient to have wherever you can lug a laptop. So I was all, OK :) haha. So I'm going to buy it. Either way, we're spending a lotta cash. haha. What's another few hundred. sigh...
Check out the other Oklahoma ABSN thread, some current students shared their opinions on the book package. It would have been nice to know a bit earlier that tomorrow would be our only chance to buy the e-package, I can't come up with the $. Oh well, its not the end of the world! Maybe I'll find someone who'll sell me an extra copy.
See everybody tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!
