University of Oklahoma-Accelerated BSN Program

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi All,

I'm new to this site and to the field of nursing. Has anyone gone to this school and if so, what did you think?

I live in San Diego, CA, and there is an online program that this school offers. I'm 3 prerequisites away from applying to the school, with a start date of August 08. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nicole

I wish I knew about the immunizations and CPR. I know I've seen the immunization list earlier on this thread as far as what you need. OU requires that you are CPR certified through the AHA. Even though the certification is good for 2 years, OU requires annual renewals. I had to do everything within 5 weeks and that cuts it close with some immunizations. Good luck to you, Laura. I know that this has been a long journey for you. :)

thank you so much...yes, i am so excited to finally apply and hopefully start...

what semester are you in? any tips for after we start??? lol I am sure you remember how the unknown can consume you before you start the actual program hehe:D

oh I just read that this is yor 1st semester...

can anyone recommend where in San Diego can I take the CPR class?

also is there any place that offers inexpensive shots???

thank you!!!!!!!!

try this for CPR: http://OptiWell-inc.com it is about 4 hours shorter than other classes, because each student gets their own doll.

and i went to my community college for some shots, but then ran out of time because the semester ended. i ended up at CVS minute clinic (on clarimont) for the rest of them. they take insurance, and you don't need an appointment. it is difficult to find Hep B shots in the county unless you are at risk (ex. if you participate in risky sexual behavior and/ or drug use).

Good luck. Fall is a good time to start. Hope you get in.

thank you so much for all the info

unfortunately I dont have insurance...I wonder how much CVS charges without...

Also do we need to purchase health insurance once we start? any good ideas for that?

is this the one?

American Heart CPR for Healthcare Providers (reg. BLS)

$65/person includes book

lol I better take the right one...I remember some students getting a bit confused about which one to take

thank you again for all your help

yes - that is the one. and it is really quick and easy. CVS charges 30 dollars for the TB test and 65 dollars for the hep B if you don't have insurance. The county health department has a clinic that will give you the TB test for 10 dollars, viceralla, MMR, DT, and any other immunization accept Hep B. and they don't do titers. I don't have that contact info though. RE health insurance... you should start working on that. the school offers a plan, but i heard it is really bad, so probably not the way to go. there are lots of plans out there, you just have to have something if you want to start the program.

can I get the insurance after I am accepted or is it too late?

also do you have any names for an insurance I could look up? that is less expensive (my dh lost his job so I am trying to save some money :(

the health department sounds great...I need to find some info

thank you again

no, you can't start without proof of coverage, so you should work on that. there are plans for like 60-70 dollars that cover emergencies only. i would do a search on line and see what you come up with.

good luck!

Laura,

Go to tab #38 on this thread. There is info re: health insurance posted from people in my cohort before the semester started.

In regards to immunizations, you may want to call family practice doctors. That's how I found mine and he does all the immunizations as well as Hep B. I was told that the immunizations are not covered by insurance because those are childhood vaccines/child wellness. Only the flu shot was covered so I had to pay out of pocket anyways.

Could any current san diego campus student tell me the name of your second semester pharmacology book, or if anyone is interested in selling any of her books for first or second semester, could you let me know. Thanks a lot!

I am definitely interested in selling some books...I am going to keep a few that I really like but I may be willing to make a deal with you. :) Most have highlighting already though...but in yellow...you could use pink. PM me if you are interested. I have a bunch of handy dandy extra books too that weren't required.
