University of Oklahoma ABSN 2017

U.S.A. Oklahoma

Published

Hey! I haven't seen a post for this yet, but is anyone out there applying to OU's ABSN program for 2017 matriculation?

Did y'all apply to other schools? I applied to two other schools and got accepted into one of them, so if OU doesn't work out then I have a back up plan.

Just OU, for now. My husband is military, & the fact that there are so few accelerated programs in Oklahoma really limits my options. Contemplating applying to Oklahoma City University, though I've heard mixed reviews concerning their program.

Congrats on your acceptance! Where else did you apply?

I just finished up applying. Hopefully I get in. I won't be done with my bachelor's or pre-reqs until May and I've heard that even though that is allowed it's preferred that it is all done at application time.

I agree. I wish there were more accelerated programs. I've heard good and bad things about OKCU. I actually got accepted there for this fall, but I decided not to go because of the way they handle their program. You see OKCU is all about maintaining their reputation and if you don't do well in their program then they will try to kick you out. For me, that's not an option. I can't pay all that private tuition for them to try and make me leave the program. This is why their passing rate is so high. I thought maybe this information wasn't true, but I got confirmation from a nurse who graduated there.

I applied and got accepted to Tulsa Community College ADN program for Spring. And I am waiting to hear from OSU Okmulgee ADN program as well. My first choice is OU though.

I've heard pretty much the same about OKCU. That's pretty much what's been deterring me from applying. Praying and hoping that things pull through for OU for all of us, and any other hopeful reading this thread!

I haven't applied to any ADN programs, although maybe I should consider doing so to broaden my chances...

Well thank you! Same to you.

Yea, the only reason I applied to Tulsa Community College was because you can work on your BSN while in the ADN program. However, the other school I applied to does not so that was my last choice.

So far I've only applied to OU's ABSN, but I will probably apply to their traditional program and also to OKCU. I too have heard mixed things, but I really want to get nursing school over and done with so I can start working, so I have all the qualifications and would be accepted it's just a matter of the money and their reputation for wanting to kick people out. Only 6ish more weeks, I keep counting down but then remember that the app deadline hasn't even happened yet haha. Texas has a lot of ABSN program, but their qualifications are much higher and you have to take entrance exams and have letters of rec. It's just a lot more work. I liked how simple it was to apply to OU.

Haleyreese, my sentiments exactly. I'm so ready to start nursing school & just get it over & done with, so I can do what it is that I'm passionate about. I would apply to ADN programs, but I know that I'd eventually have to get my BSN later on down the road. I'm not getting any younger & I'm at a point in my life where I feel like now would be a better time than any other to attend & complete an accelerated program.

I agree with your comment about programs in Texas. I looked into applying to Texas schools but just couldn't justify (financially) having to take any more prerequisites for programs.

Beejay, the ADN program at TCC sounds really good! Wish I was free to move around Oklahoma...

I totally get what you all are saying and I feel the same way. It's so much better just to get a BSN. Especially, since hospitals are pushing more towards nurses having their Bachelors now anyways. I won't be surprised if before long it will be a requirement. This is why OU is my number one choice. However, if OU waitlists me again, then I'll probably just have to go elsewhere as hard as that is for me.

Hey guys! I am so happy to have found an active thread about OU-ABSN! I applied with the Duncan campus being my first choice. I have a degree in deaf and elementary education from USAO, and have been teaching for several years while working on my prereqs. I am completing A&P II right now, which is my last class. Woot! If I don't get accepted to OU I will apply to OCCC's BADNAP program in the spring. It is a nine month ADN program, but like most of you, I am REALLY wanting to get my BSN through OU. Fingers crossed for all of us!

That's a good plan, Brandi. I'm thinking of applying to OCCC's BADNAP program as well, just to keep my options open. 9 months is such a great time frame, in my opinion, & doing a bridge program from there to get BSN wouldn't be so bad either. Fingers crossed that SOMETHING comes through for us!

Having a back up is always a good plan! I think I'm going to apply to OU's traditional program and OKC University's as well if I don't get accepted into the ABSN at OU. The private school tuition will suck, but hey you get it over with. I just realized today is the 15th, the app deadline! So now the real waiting begins! Hopefully only one more month until we find out. I hope we all get accepted to our first choices!
