University of Oklahoma ABSN 2017

U.S.A. Oklahoma

Hey! I haven't seen a post for this yet, but is anyone out there applying to OU's ABSN program for 2017 matriculation?

I am! I am nervous because I did not get in last year. Hopefully, I will have better luck this year. I wonder how long it will take them to send out acceptance emails?

I called to find out, since the application deadline was significantly later this year than it has been in the past. I was told that they hope to have letters out by the middle or end of November, so that if we don't get accepted, we have enough time to decide whether or not we want to apply to the traditional program. Which campus are you applying to? Were you given an explanation last year as to why you didn't get accepted?

Nice! Thanks for the information! I didn't get in because I had not finished my pre-reqs and I also did not have my degree finished. My last 60 gpa wasn't as high, but it's much better now.

I applied to the Tulsa and OKC campuses.

So happy I found others that applied to their program! I have been searching all over the website for a feed like this haha. I applied to the ABSN program as well, but just for OKC. I got an email today that said last year they accepted about 1 out of 3 applicants, so those aren't terrible odds. She also told me they encourage applicants to target a 3.0 or in both the science and last 60 GPA. The science GPA is the one that makes me worry. Where did y'all get your prior Bachelor's at?

I got my BA at The University of Oklahoma. I graduated last December, and I applied to the traditional program and got waitlisted and never got called.

I'm applying to the Duncan/Lawton & OKC campuses, with Duncan as my first preference. I got my BA from a SUNY school in upstate NY, & I majored in biology. What did you guys major in?

I've heard mixed things on whether it's harder to get into the ABSN or the Traditional. Hopefully the ABSN is easier for our sake. I am from Texas and graduated from UT with a BSN in child development. I think I want to do some form of nursing with children like the NICU or pediatrics. How are y'alls science GPAs?

My BA is in psychology. I think both are competitive in my personal opinion. Some of the nurses I work with who went through both programs said they had to apply a couple times before they got in. I know I want to work somewhere having to do with cardiac or cardiac ICU. The ER seems fun too, but I don't like the no patient care aspect or getting to know them.

My GPAs are ok. Hoping to be a nurse midwife someday, so I'd like to one day work on a labor & delivery unit. This is my first time applying so I'm not too sure about the competitiveness of both programs, relative to each other.

This is thread has been pretty quiet compared to past threads, lol. Maybe more will join after the deadline.

Labor and delivery would be awesome too! I know of one other person who is applying. Other than that, I haven't heard much from anybody around where I work applying for this years round of ABSN. Hopefully, that will work out in our favor if that's the case.

Yeah some of the old threads have tons of people and comments on them. I hope you're right beejayaye. The less people applying the better chance we have. I just got an email telling me this info about who got accepted at the OKC campus last year:

I can give you information regarding last year's application pool for the Oklahoma City campus, though keep in mind each applicant group - both numbers to apply and average GPA figures - differ to varying degrees. Last year for OKC campus about 120 applied; 45 were offered admission. Average "Last 60 credit hour" GPA was 3.68; Average Science GPA admitted was 3.67.

I was feeling better, but now I'm worried al over again because my science GPA is no where near that good. I'm around a 3.0, so that might mean I'll get waitlisted instead. I started another thread about this a few weeks ago and got one reply, so I'll tell the girl who replied to hop on this thread instead.
