Hello everyone! I just have been getting ahead of myself but decided to start this thread for people looking to apply to University of Maryland's CRNA program for the Summer of 2021. I have been very nervous but excited. CRNA school has always been the goal so crossing my fingers and wishing everyone looking to apply lots of luck! We got this ?
In the meantime, feel free to keep me company here as I wait 6 months for applications to even be due.

I’ve been accepted to the program and will start in June. All the professors and the director seemed super awesome in the interview. Best of luck!

That is so exciting!! Any tips? I really want to get in and just don't know the chances of that. What were your stats and do you mind guiding me a bit with mine if you think they aren't the best?
Sure! What are your stats?
I have 3.7 overall & 4.0 science GPA. 3 years shock trauma ICU in level 1 trauma center. Charge nurse, preceptor, committee work, community service, CCRN, TCRN, ACLS, PALS. I got into a few with those stats but UMD was definitely my first pick and I think they could tell!

That's awesome! You sound like an amazing applicant ?
I have 4.0 overall and science GPA. 1.5 years in a CCU and coming up on 1 yr in a large CVSICU. Mentor, committee work, research experience, community service, and AACN member. I have my CCRN, PALS, ACLS, and BLS.
Do you mind sharing what other programs you had gotten into? UMD is my first choice as well but I read the other forums and know it is extremely competitive and your round had a record number of applicants.

I'm planning on applying to U of Maryland too. I agree that you sound like an amazing applicant! My overall GPA is a 3.6 but I wasn't as serious as I should have been about my prerequisites for nursing school and science GPA is only around a 3.3... I'm really hoping I can get into school without having to retake a chem/bio/physiology class. I've worked on a MICU/Oncology ICU (one unit with two separate services) for almost 4 years and would like to stay on my unit cause I enjoy it but also know the experience of a CCU/CVICU would be really beneficial.

Thank you! I think you have very unique ICU experience that you should definitely play up. It will help you stand out as a candidate for sure. It couldn’t hurt to email them either just to have your name out there about what they think their accepted applicants’ applications looked like. You got this ?

Hey guys, I just submitted my application a couple weeks ago, and status has been changed to 'completed' since my references finished their parts. I'm glad this chat thread exists!

Does anyone know what questions they ask in the interview? I also hear there’s a written test?

Hi, I am applying this year with UMD-Baltimore as my top choice. Do you think that the committee has preference for surgical and cardiac ICU experience? Most of my experience is in medical.

Hey all! I randomly decided to look at this thread since I was sooo obsessed w/ it when I was applying last year. I know the application process can be so anxiety provoking!
I just wanted to throw a couple of things out there.
-Yes, your stats are important but there is no point in comparing yourself to others. (Trying to limit things to stress about) Some people in the program have experience from small ICUs, only 1-2 yrs experience and others have 5+-8+ years of level 1 ICU. With that being said, yes it looks great the more experience you have but it is just one factor
-Do not rush to get your application in...I submitted less than a month before the deadline to literally perfect my application. I reviewed/edited my essay and resume for months, making tweaks etc. I will say for me, I think my essay and my well-rounded resume is what got me an interview. Not my GPA
-You have to dig down deep and figure out how to make your essay demonstrate who you are, and what your core values are as a person...and then relate this back to anesthesia....don’t go over the word count/ follow the directions meticulously
-Now for interview, yes study your drugs etc. I highly suggest doing mock interviews w/ people you are not familiar w/. The interview panel want to see how you act under pressure. I know for my interview there was a question I didn’t know how to answer. I said “Give me a moment to think about that.” (Couldn’t come up w/ anything) and then said “You know what I want to be honest, I’m not sure how to answer that but I can find the answer for you..” Don’t be afraid to show your personality! This is what sets you apart. I showed that I was respectful, extremely great full for the Opportunity but wasn’t going to be walked all over if that makes sense.
-I applied multiple places and suggest applying to at least 3 different schools
-Obviously review your CCRN material... there was a small multiple choice/fill in the blank written portion At the beginning of the interview —> although I know people who got questions wrong and still were accepted
-I suggest brushing up on Chemistry/physics —> will make your first semester a lot easier
-OK that’s all I can think of, let me know if any of you have questions and I can try to help!!
Good Luck to everyone! ?

Thank you so much for this post. Honestly helped me breathe just a little because I’ve been very nervous. I did have a question about the reference requests. My supervisor/manager will not write one for me due to hospital policy. I instead asked a preceptor and NP. Will this hurt my application? They both know me very well and I don’t think I could have chosen better individuals than that. Also. Do you have any insight on whether or not the interviews will be in person or zoom? Thanks again!
