University of Michigan (UofM) Accelerated program

Published

Hi everyone!!! I am new to allnurses.com - I was wondering if anyone has applied for the Fall 2009 accelerated program? I have not been able to attend an information session due to scheduling conflicts. Does anyone know how many people apply to the program or know any "insider" info? I know that 50 people get in every year - I just submited my application last week for the early response deadline - good luck to all!!

Hi Kiwispring,

It looks like we may be classmates. I am trying to decide between U of M and WSU, and leaning towards U of M right now. Do you think you are leaning towards U of M, too?

Sorry to post again! I just thought I would mention that I think most applicants have still not heard anything yet. I know of one person who got a rejection in early March, but that is it besides the girl I happened to overhear in the library in February. I remember grilling her about her application since she got in before anyone else had heard anything, and she seemed to have an exceptional resume/background. It seems that the process is a lot slower this year. If anyone has questions for me, please ask, and I'll try to pass on what I know or have heard from other applicants personally or second hand.

If anyone else taking courses at WCC now? I'm there this term and will be over spring/summer, too. I'm signed up for U of M orientation on May 13th...if you end up there I'm excited to meet you. I couldn't do the May 9th one because of a class I'll be in.

I'm taking classes at WCC this semester. I'm there tues and thurs...

Me too! :) I have math and genetics on Tues and Thurs. I can't wait for this semester to be over. Are you taking anything over the spring? Sorry to everyone else, this site is not letting me message people individually....

I have A&P on tues and thurs. I have life span psych, patho, and marriage and family online. I'm taking pharm this summer. Are you um alumni or what your background? I was sure I would have heard something by now...very frustrating for me!

For the people that have already gotten accepted....What are the orientation date options? I am surprised to hear that they are in early May, since the program doesn't start until the Fall. Most programs have their orientation 7 - 10 days before their respective start date. Also, does it mention the length of the orientation? Is it a couple days, one full day, etc...? THanks,

- Dan

Our orientation last year was in mid May. It's only 1 day and I think about 4 hours long. I know we were only there about a half of a day. They'll give you a bunch of info about the program and you'll register for classes as well. It's really low key.

So we should get a reply before May 9th.....

The orientation dates are either May 9th or the 13th, and it is only for 4 hours. I know that for this year's current class they had orientations later in the summer available, too. I believe the last 2 weeks in August are considered an orientation of sorts, too, and that those weeks are pretty much full time. I did go to U of M and graduated back in 2001. But I did all of my science and most of the non-science nursing prereqs at WCC. I think the entire acceptance process is weird and agree that acceptances should be all sent out at one time.

One thing I was told is that the more prereqs you have completed before the app deadline, the better. I'm not sure if they hold off until grades are in for people who have a few prereqs left to complete? The only one I have left to complete is pharm, which I'm in now. Maybe that's why?

I know from a friend in the program now that there was an orientation in late July or early August for students admitted after May.

The orientation in August was for those remaining students that were pulled from the waitlist. Most of us went to the May orientations. The last 2 weeks in August are the "skills blitz" it's not orientation, it's a mandatory attendance to learn basic skills that you will need for clinicals. It is for ALL students, so don't plan any vacation the 2 weeks prior to school starting

livingk,

hello! i'm glad to hear that another student got in! congrats!

i've actually decided to go to michigan (vs msu) after much deliberation.

i don't know much about wayne's program but i would suggest giong to their information sessions/ talking to counselors and students. i didn't apply to wayne bc their prereqs were a little different than what i've taken already.

i'm definitely interested in setting up a fb group or sth for our cohort. i'm in the process of finding housing right now near the nursing sch and i would love to have a roommate or two to split rent with.
