University of Miami FNP 2016

Published

Hello! I am wondering if anyone has been admitted to the part time FNP program at UM. I applied this week & I am looking forward to hearing back from them in regards to my application. I would like to know how long to wait after submitting your application through Nursing CAS ? Any information regarding the admission process and the part time program in general would be greatly appreciated

Those of you who've been accepted-- mind sharing your gpa and type/length of work experience? Was interviewed and waiting to hear back.

My cumulative GPA is about a 3.3 but my GPA in my nursing program is a little higher. I have a little over 2 years of ICU experience. I'm certified to do CRRT dialysis and also IABP certified. I'm not sure what they focus on the most.

I found out that I had been accepted pretty quickly. Less than a week. I think my nursing degree GPA is 3.6, my previous degree is somewhere around a 3.4. I have about 3 years combined in the trauma/SICU and CVICU. Also, moving from out of state and wouldn't mind tips on places to live or roommates. Thanks!

Bootcamp starts Oct 26

Quinnk27... question for you, you're from out of state. When doing the background check, did you still select the, "if you currently live in Florida - electronic FBI fingerprint information" option as they recommend?

No I did the out of state one. Or "non Florida resident." I can't remember what it said. Out of state takes longer so the sooner you get it started the better

Elpeet did you start the fingerprint process for your Florida license yet? It looks as though we cannot send electronic. You have to get finger print cards done locally and then send them to a live scan location in Florida. They then process them and send it to the Florida department of nursing. Also, it looks as though the fbi background check could potentially not be completed until after the start of the semester. The school told me 10-12 weeks but the paper that American data bank sent me claims 12-18 weeks. I hope this is not an issue because they said you will not be able to register without it. These deadlines make me nervous because they are totally out of our control.

Yep. Just got them done today. I was lucky and my local police department had the FD-258 fingerprint cards in stock. Not sure if you noticed or if yours is the same but my admission letter said that it was required to have your Florida nursing license by Oct 23rd. I called UMiami today and spoke with them about the fingerprinting issues, the prep course, and dates. Said the same finger printing cant be used for the license and fingerprinting and encouraged me to get the background prints done in Florida. I found a place online that seems to make the license fingerprinting relatively easy/gives a step by step process. It's relatively expensive ($125), though. Hope this helps

Yes, I also called them. I had fingerprint cards done today. I'm going to send one to the live scan company in Florida for my license and then I will get the background ones done once/if I ever make it down to Florida. I hate how last minute all of this will be. I don't think I will be down in Florida until Christmas time because I need to have my license and a job before I move. What was the site you found? The one I found charges $160.

I used this site... Digital Fingerprinting | Orlando FL | Mail & More

and I completely understand, it feels a little rushed. I think I'm just gonna suck it up and fly down there for the printing. I have a friend that lives down in Tampa that I can stay with.

sorry, thought I hit post earlier. I think I'm just gonna suck it up and fly down to get the prints. It's worth it to not have to deal with the stress in waiting. I know some people that live down there so it will make it a little easier

The school told me it only takes a few days to process once you move down there. I also called American data bank and they confirmed that it is very quick. I sent fingerprint cards to binary biometrics in Florida and they are going to make them digital and send them to the Florida board of nursing so I can get my license. They said from the time I mail the prints should be received/processed and sent out within 7 days. I need that license asap so I can get a job and move down there. What are your plans for work and living arrangements?
