University of Miami Accelerated BSN-2013

Published

Hi ALL,

I wanted to start this thread for all those who applied and are interested in applying for UM's Accelerated BSN next spring (Jan 2013)!!

Has any one applied or been accepted yet?

Please reply

Congrats!

DC, great city. Regarding suggestions, a lot revolves around what you are looking for. For example, for many part of the attraction of Miami is Miami Beach, but the cost and the incovenience of crossing a bridge (just in case Miami Beach is on an island) during the duration for an intensive program is probably not worth it. Also, in addition ot the classes, time will need to be budgeted for looking for a job.

Do you mean that you will be working while you are in school? I was told that the classes are really intensive and between studying and clinical rotations we would not have time to keep a full or part time job.

Hey everyone, I just recieved my acceptance letter today!! Im sooo excited. Hopefully, I get to meet all of you. However, I may have to defer. :(

LSYM2012- Would it be possible if we exchange emails, I would to communicate with you about when you deferred ur emrollment.

Let me know

When will you defer enrollment till?

South Florida Market Update,

I am a big believer that part of the school experience is to simultaneously seek for a job. Here is an update about S. Florida that might be interesting. Baptist Hospital has reduced the schools that it partners for its scholars program from 4 to 2. The surprise (for me) was that Miami Dade was dropped, given that it is the largest nursing school in the area. I wonder if this means that Baptist will be open to hiring students outside of its scholars program, or/and that there will be more Miami-Dade students approaching the same health care facilities that we might be looking into.

I was told that they (Accelerated BSN Scholarship Program) will only be giving out 3 scholarships for this year due to the budget crisis. "The scholars selected to receive the scholarship commit to full-time employment at the University of Miami Health System/Miller School of Medicine at the initial placement site selected by the University of Miami for a minimum of thirty six (36) months from the date of initial employment with the University."

I took my prereqs during the past year at MDC? Is there anyone else that did the same? Would be fun to know.

I done my prereqs last year at MDC too...which campus?

When I received my acceptance letter from traditional program BSN in August, they mention that the program is very intensive and don't recommended you work while you are studying.

Yea, that is what I was told too. So I will have to figure out a budget for financial aid. Sallie Mae said they would cover my utilities, tuition, and books.

Thanks, Al Lima! I want to be close to campus because I won't have a car and want to be able to wake up and go right to the library most days, haha. I saw U of Miami has certain apartments listed but do you know of any others that are around campus and not too pricey?

LSYM2012- I have a question for you. Did you pay $300.00 for admission when you was accepted in May 2012? Thanks

Hi mspad211,

Here is a link that I found on the UM website for off campus housing with prices listed. I hope this helps...:yeah:

Starvilla048,

I would give you my email but I got an email from All nurses admin saying that I was not allowed to post identfying 411. Someone really needs to create a facebook. Yes, I did pay the 300$ prior to realizing I was going to have to defer. Call SOHNS and ask if you have to pay the fee to defer. Wish I could be more helpful.

You can communicate this information via private message. It is not safe to post your email address on a public board such as this as you subject yourself to unwanted spam.

Don't worry and thanks for the information anyway. You are able to send private messages already (more than 15 posts). I did pay $ 300.00 when I was accepted by traditional program in May, but now I received an acceptance letter for accelerated program (January) that said about enrollment deposit...Do I have to pay again? :arghh:
