Hey DST1913,Thank you so much for working on creating us a facebook to be able to connect with one another. I received an email from all nurses that they don't want us posting identifyable information so I'm not sure if we can leave our facebook names on this message board. Is there a way to set it up without adding friends off the bat, but instead maybe we can search it by whatever title you come up with? Not sure if it's possible or not, I'm not super computer savy.
Is the FB page complete? I cannot find it...
Hi, I read the list that Anelite forwarded and I was not surprised by the listings. I factored budget and your transportation (w/o car) goals, and it seemed that the best bet is Dadeland near the metro. FYI, public transportation in Miami is most developed from downtown to Dadeland in a north/south fashion (UM is in between). I saw cheaper listings but these were in more western locations where having a car is recommended.Areas not surprised by high prices: Collins, Brickell, Coral Gables, parts of South Beach, Coconut Grove, Key Biscayne - avg households are high in these areas. Dadeland is more of a mix.
I had no idea that it was so expensive to live in Miami... I live in a gated community, 3 bedroom & 2 1/2 and my rent is 950.00. My real estate agent in Miami says to get into a good neighborhood I would be able to get a 2/1 for 1200.00. This is my goal right now...
Hey Starvilla048,Thank you for the information I had no idea that they had to have the money so quickly, I was hoping I at least had until November 10th.... but oh well I guess I better get on that.
Yea, that is a lot of money but thankfully I currently have a job and I can pull some money from there. We will not hear anything from financial aid until mid November.
Hey LSYM2012,I'm right there with you on the moving process. I feel like it's a shot in the dark. I have been looking places up near school and my problem is I can mapquest something but I don't really know what the traffic or travel time will be like. Nor do I know what is considered a good or bad area. Oh and don't get me started on the rent..... crazy crazy prices.
I ended up with a real estate agent. I think that is your best bet. And it does not cost you anything to have one. They will do the research once you give them your budget and they can take you around from there....
Hey Anelite sorry for the late response,The website won't let me message you on here yet because I haven't met the response requirement.... or something along those lines. Anyways I understand your reasoning for having roommates and I respect that. I hope that you all are able to relocate easily and that it goes smoothly for your child as well.[/quote
Awwwww thanks... That is really sweet. I am looking at magnet schools right now for him and I think I found one. But I have to tell my real estate agent because he told me to look for a school first and then he can find something in the schools district. Miami Dade is different from where I am from. Kids can go to any school they want to but in Miami kids must live in the same district as the school.
So I was just thinking... Sallie Mae will give me a loan to cover my tuition, books, and living expenses. He told me that when I call back I must have a budget in mind... Has everyone here already created a budget for their financial aid? I figure everyone is in the same boat as myself and will need to prepare for another loan since we already have a bachelors degree. I only have 19,000 left from my federal loan and the entire program is 41,000.
I noticed a lot of of members have taken their pre-reqs at MDC. Why did you choose to go to UM, considering the huge difference in cost of tuition? I considered UM as well, until I saw the costs!
I might be incorrect but I believe that MDC only offers an associates degree in nursing, but I might be wrong. This is why I did not choose this school. Another factor, I was not able to do an application online, the office told me that I would have to come to Miami just to apply. I currently live on the west coast of FL. I liked the idea that I could apply online and begin to see results with UM. I also applied to Barry University after I applied to UM. Another advantage that drew me to both of these schools was the fact that I did not have to take the GRE or TEAS test.

That is wonderful, UM has a masters degree for Nurse Practitioner but I saw somewhere that if you get B- you can get removed the program. I do not think I would like the added stress from that, but my ultimate goal is to become a nurse practitioner...
