University of Miami Accelerated BSN Summer 2015

Published

Hello :)

I am kind of early with this thread, but I am pretty excited about the possibility of starting nursing school in May! Anybody else out there considering UM's ABSN program for summer 15? Also, anybody that has gotten in the program if you don't mind sharing helpful information, please do! I will still have 3 outstanding pre-reqs that I am registered to take in Spring. My cum GPA & pre-req GPA without those last 3 classes will be a 3.3 for both. I think I have a fair chance, could be better! (and will be once I finish pre-reqs) But anyway, share your thoughts about this program if you are considering as well! & good luck :)

Hello everyone! I just came across this forum when I was searching for others who may have applied to UM's aBSN program for Summer 2015. I was surprised to see a feed for this (and am very happy I found you all!).

Just wanted to say hello and say that I am excited to also be applying for the program. I submitted my application right before the New Year, but with all of the holidays and offices closed, my application was not completed until last week. My application is currently getting verified by NursingCAS. QUESTION: Approximately how long does it take for UM to contact us about their acceptance decision after our application is verified?

My stats: I went to a small school a little north of Pittsburgh, PA (my hometown) and graduated with a 3.7 and earned a BS in Management and Marketing. I attended a small community college to complete my pre-reqs and have one more to complete this spring (Chemistry). I currently have a pre-req GPA of 4.0. My one downfall, however, is that I actually started an Accelerated BSN program at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and didn't do so hot in one of my classes. This may be because I have been in the process of trying to move to south Florida and probably should have never started the program in Pittsburgh. My GPA from this program was only a 2.75. So that's really why I am freaking out about my admission to this program.

The reason for my move to South Florida is because my long-term boyfriend has a fantastic job in Miami and it is about that time in my life where I should be there with him. UM is a beautiful school and really has a wonderful program. I am excited to be a part of UM's legacy.

Anyway -- has anyone found out if they have been accepted into the program??! I will keep you all updated when I hear back. Best of luck to you all and hopefully we will meet soon!

Has anyone submitted their app yet? I'm hoping to do so very soon!!!! Would waiting until next week be too late?

I'm in the process just waiting on my references to complete their form. That's the only thing holding me up. Next week won't be too late. But I wouldn't wait until mid February etc. Submit it as soon as you can then it's the waiting process.

Good luck risser! Your stats are looking good!

I haven't yet @Krysty0214 I plan on completing it this week, we should be fine the deadline isn't until March. So, next week definitely would not be too late!

@Mandaaleiigh I'm not sure about how long they take with admissions but judging by previous cohorts they start accepting people before the deadline, so it is good to have it in early. That is if they are still doing it that way! Your stats are great! I wouldn't worry about the program you were in before hindering your acceptance. Good luck! Please keep us posted I will do the same.

Awesome! I'm planning to submit mine by the end of the week as well! I hope we hear back soon! This is going to be nerve racking! lol

hi there, have any of you attended an information session? I was wondering how many applicants apply and how many they accept? Also what is the average accepted GPA? I have no clue what my science prereq GPA is! Also, I had to retake chemistry, so hopefully it won't be looked upon unfavorably. I did earn an A retaking it :)

so i received an email asking for course description for chemistry and nutrition... have any of you had classes like this be denied?

This course provides students with a background in the basics of nutrition and stresses the link between nutrition practices, health, disease, and exercise performance. Topics include macronutrient needs; vitamins, minerals, and other supplements; energy balance; weight control; the effects of nutrient excesses and deficiencies on performance; ergogenic aids; eating disorders; and how to recognize nutrition practices that may require professional referral. Practical application of this knowledge is achieved through nutrition labeling and literature evaluation.

14A. Atomic and Molecular Structure, Equilibria, Acids, and Bases. (4) Lecture, three hours; discussion, one hour. Preparation: high school chemistry or equivalent background and three and one-half years of high school mathematics. Not open to students with credit for course 20A. Introduction to physical and general chemistry principles; atomic structure based on quantum mechanics; atomic properties; trends in periodic table; chemical bonding (Lewis structures, VSEPR theory, hybridization, and molecular orbital theory); gaseous and aqueous equilibria; properties of inorganic and organic acids, bases, buffers; titrations. P/NP or letter grading.

Thank you! Good luck to you! I just submitted my application last week, but I still have 2 more transcripts waiting to be received. They should be in soon since I requested them Dec 29th! Hoping they get in before the end of this week or next just so that they can be evaluated and all that jazz.

I heard somewhere that about 300+ people apply for around 70 spots? Not 100% sure about that, but seems kinda accurate. I think that a lot more people apply for the spring start as well, so maybe that will boost our chances! Not sure about average GPA or anything like that. Also, if you want to know your pre-req GPA just calculate it yourself! Add up all of your grades (A=4, A-=3.7, B+=3.3, B=3, etc), and divide it by the amount of pre-req classes. Hope that helps!

Alrighty, just submitted my application!!! What a relief to get it over with! I'm still waiting for one transcript to arrive, the others have been received but not yet verified. Hopefully that doesn't take too long :/ Good luck everyone!

If I have repeated 1 class, do they average the 2 grades together or just take the higher one?
