University of Maryland Traditional BSN Fall Program: Any idea when we will hear back?

U.S.A. Maryland

Published

I was wondering if there was anyone out there that applied last fall that could tell us when they learned the fate of their application? I was just wondering how long we (Fall 2009 applicants) would have to wait until we hear back from the admissions office. Thanks and good luck to everyone else!

loloterp - I think every one of us couldn't really believe it until we got our letters....and I almost drove myself and everyone else in my life crazy for 2 solid months before mine arrived. I was already accepted at another school (Marymount University) so I was real unsure about letting that one go until I was convinced I got into UMB. In fact the first thing I got from them was a letter telling me my student ID number, and that was 3 weeks before THE LETTER came. UMB is extemely slow in getting those out (for whatever reason they don't consider it a priority) and they won't be any help if you try and contact them (I thought for sure that they somehow lost my address!) I guess the way to look at it is -- if the computer says you are in -- you are in. There are a bunch of hands involved and its not like there is one person who will arbitrarily make or modify decisions; they all look at their computers to see who's in or who isn't. And even though we are in the school of nursing, many of the personnel at UMB work with all the schools: nursing, medicine, pharmacy, & law to name the bigger ones -- so there are lots of students for them to deal with (and most of them are graduate students which means even more paperwork. Undergrads are always seemingly at the bottom of the barrel :bluecry1:)

The only thing you need to worry about is if you are still taking classes that you make an A or B in the ones you are finishing up. They can rescind the offer if they don't like your final transcript.

So I know its hard to fully trust a bunch of strangers and some webpage that says "admit", but try real hard not to overly obsess :banghead: over the arrival of the letter for your own sanity as well as those around you :-)

also remember that whatever question it is, if it's asking you for a rate, round to a whole number. anything else, can be to the 10th. i have no idea why but a lot of people always forget this.

as for the sample problem above, you can also do it this way. all depends what you're comfortable with i guess but i like this more. now you just cross multiple and solve for x.

10,000 mg[color=white].... 5,000 mg

________ =[color=white].. ________

[color=white]....ml [color=white] ..............x ml

i feel funny throwing out random advice even though no one is particularly asking for it :rolleyes:

but bear with me and give me a chance to do something else besides stuffing my face in my textbook.

im still waiting neurotically. still committee ready. im praying hard and crossing everything i got. i really need to be y'alls classmates. seriously.

Good luck angel. Im sure you'll find out soon enough, i know how the wait can be nerve racking.

Also, for the upperclassmen, whats parking like at UMB? Is parking gonna cost me an arm and a leg? How do you guys get to school?

Hey JR...Thank you for your advice..I really just need to believe that i got in and just focus on the two classes I'm in now (Micro&Psychology of women). At least now i have good reason to put extra effort into those classes. I'm just anxious b/c I really didnt' expect to get in. But it's not by my power, so I'm just thankful.

Lonestar88 &Dorkalicous- Thanks for the info..I really do appreciate you helping us incoming students out.

Angel..- Dont give up hope. I really do wish you the best of luck. I know what i went thru seeing that committee ready and it was soo nerve wrecking..Just take it easy and before you know it your status will be updated.

Thanks everyone....:up:

still waiting...:saint:

arghhhh..No letter yet :thnkg:

Angel hang in there!!!

Yea, I bet they'll send it out in a batch. But from what all the upperclassmen have been saying, it seems as if we're in.

Question for current students - im trying to determine how much ill have to borrow/my budget for the next academic year and I saw that on the "Cost of Education" chart here: http://www.fincsvc.umaryland.edu/sa/images/nurs.pdf

lists that clinical hours will be $100/per credit. So I imagine that this could be a big cost that can sneak up on ya ei. if they mean credit hours and we have to do like say 5 credit hours its $500. But if they mean like total hours of actual clinical hours we complete (which is prob not the case), it can be a lot more expensive. So i guess what id like to know is how this is calculated.

What would also be very helpfull is if the instaters could tell us how much their cost of attendance was excluding say cost of living. Thanks.

Total Credit Hours: 15.000

Tuition and Fees for Spring 2009 Description Amount

Registration Fees $616.50

Hospitalization Insurance $1,086.00

Registration Tuition $3,445.00

Total Charge:

$5,147.50

This is basically the summary I copied and pasted from my account. I do live nearby campus but those fees are not included because it's not part of school housing (which is crazy expensive). I also get a bit of financial aid which also isn't reflected above. If you have your own insurance, you can get the insurance charge waivered by filling out some paperwork. Hope this helps!

Thats very helpful, thanks a lot! Is hospital insurance the same as health insurance or does it only cover an event where you would need hospitalization? In other words does it cover regular wellness visits, prescriptions, etc?

It's the same as health insurance. They have a health clinic nearby campus (baltimore) and when you go in you don't really have to do much paperwork or anything. My roommate tells me she has to go through a longer process "?" I'm not really sure what you have to do if you're insurance isn't through the school. Anyway, you usually have a co-pay... of 20% or so. I'm not exactly sure how much but they cover a lot of it.

Again, thanks for the info. Do most students use laptops for classes to take notes etc? I can definitively type faster than I can write...but then again i dont know about carrying around a big expensive laptop.

Also, can you tell us what your first semester was like in terms of a weekly schedule? I know...so many questions haha.
