University of Maryland Traditional BSN Fall Program: Any idea when we will hear back?

Published

I was wondering if there was anyone out there that applied last fall that could tell us when they learned the fate of their application? I was just wondering how long we (Fall 2009 applicants) would have to wait until we hear back from the admissions office. Thanks and good luck to everyone else!

CONGRATS everyone getting their acceptance to the school! I was in your shoes half a year ago myself! Just remember that this is only the beginning of an uhill battle to become the best nurse you can be! I'll see whomever is going to the SG campus!

Hey dorkalicious...how did you find out which campus you were accepted into? online or paper?

sure lol. But i think you'll go to the campus you applied to originally. In other words, I dont think that they choose which campus to stick you in, you do. I dont think I remember a "choose for me" option on the application.

Hey everyone, I am a terp Admit-Institution. I MADE IT!!!! I found out this morning and I second what loloterp said, which GOD all things are possible. I would like to know which campus were chosen by the people who have been accepted? The campus I choose was SG campus, is anyone else goin to that campus?

Congratulations to all.

I was in your same position not too long ago. It is the most satisfying experience ever to get accepted into a nursing program that is well known and considered within top 10 in the country. I wish you all the best of luck. And for those students coming to the Baltimore campus, I will probably see you at orientation. Once again, congratulations.

Quick advice: You are going to get mainly two packages. The first one will tell you about orientation and everything you need to have before that day. The second package will include details about your schedule and required readings before class. Please make sure you read those pages and chapters listed on that required readings. Otherwise you will be in hell for the first month and you will very much behind. Trust me.

OMG...Congratulations KTJSR:yeah:...Happy for everyone..I applied to Baltimore cuz i live less than a mile from the school. I still go to my status page to make sure they make a mistake...I've always wanted to get into UMB. I applied to Towson, Coppin CCBC, and others. But now, I dont have to worry about those decisions. I've heard so many great things about UMB and now I'll be getting my degree from there and hopefully my MSN later on down the road. Never lose hope..I'm 25 by the way and parents think I'm getting too old to apply to nursing school for 2 years...I can't wait to prove them wrong with my acceptance letter....Good luck to those still waiting.!!!

Congratulations to all.

Thanks for the info. Do you remember how long it took b/w the change on your online status and when you got your packages in the mail?

Im also in my mid 20s and feel like there will be many much older students in our class. Age is just a number.

Congratulations all.

Your real acceptance letter and packages will seemingly take forever to get to you - so relax and enjoy your time before you start!! I started in January 09. Didn't get my letter until the beginning of November (it was almost 2 months after I saw Institution-Admit) and we didn't get our packages until right before Thanksgiving.

(I haven't read many of the previous posts so forgive me if you have heard the following elsewhere.) Let me recommend two things to you if you want to prepare yourself over the summer. One is to brush up/learn as much medical terminology as you can. If you like flashcards, Stedman's Medical Terminology flashcards are good. The more words and prefixes/suffixes you know, the less time you will have to spend looking up and learning while trying to read. The second is to practice Medical Calculations or MedCalc as they refer to it. You will have to take a test on it the first day of class and have to pass with 90% or better. (You get two more chances later on, but trust me its better to knock this one out of the park the 1st time than have to mess around with it while trying to study your other stuff.) Plus you will continue to get MedCalc questions on an ongoing basis on exams. Additionally the next semester you have to score 100% on another MedCalc to continue on. If you do a google search there are plenty of practice sites online but its probably best to go ahead and get the workbook they recommend:

Calculation of Medication Dosages

Janice Boundy

Patricia Stockert

Its not cheap so dont get sticker shock - new it was $56 at the bookstore. Since you have plenty of time, look for one online. Not sure it would be good to get a used one unless you are disciplined about working through problems even if you know the answer. Its ok to practice with a simple calculator as they will give you one when you take your exam. This is one of those things you will likely have to learn with a pencil and lots of practice. And yes you need to learn the whole book :-) That includes all the sections, conversions and the abbreviations. There is an attached DVD that isn't applicable to the initial test but is relevant for administering medications which you will be learning after your first exam in 304.

Best of luck to everyone,

Congratulations all.

Best of luck to everyone,

HAHA, hi JR, nice to see you on here now that it is spring break helping all the future students out!

You guys getting admitted, it would behoove you to take JR's word for it! It is true about the MedCalc test on the FIRST day of school, and yes, it is best to get it knocked out the first time around. I think out of the class of 50 at SG campus, only like 5 of us passed it the 1st time, isn't that right JR? And most passed by the 2nd test, BUT there were 5 or so that were left to retake it for the 3rd and final time and that is a stressor on them becuase its their last chance as well as other exams that you already have going on. BUY the book that JR recommended, I did and I read the ENTIRE book and passed 1st go.... so you guys know how helpful it is! Make sur eyou take full advantage of the tutoring sessions too! At SG we have whats called GSS and it has been very beneficial to me, don't just blow it off thinking you are too smart for it, you will learn something from it! Remember, you got in becuase you are smart, everyone is smart, but there is always something you can walk away from the tutor sessionis with... It is seniors that have been in your shoes less than a semester ago tutoring you... as for B-more campus, I apologize for not knowing what resources you guys have there as far as tutoring sessions go. But I know they do have something, so make time and GO to it!!!!

Another thing that I found helpful was to buy the books early and start reading asap! its easy to fall behind on ALL the reading! I stayed ahead, and am still ahead on my readings, so make sur eyou don't let yourself get behind on it! BTW, most of us juniors are going to be reselling the books in a few short months, so check back with me on a PM if you are interested in used books... as of right now, the only thing I think I am reselling is the Communication Module book that you will need.... all else I am keeping since it will help me study for the NCLEX exam later.

Speaking of which, if you can quiz yourself and take NCLEX stye question exams, do so now, becuase that will be most student's pitfall when the first exam comes around for the 304 fundamentals class!

Ok, congrats to all, and when you start school in the fall, remember organization is the key, and dont forget to BREATHE, becuase it will be overwhelming at first!

Thank for the info guys. Sooo....is it safe to 100% assume that the "Admit-Institution" means accepted?
