Hello, Since the other University of Maryland postings were high stress 'leveled' I'm starting a new one!
I've enjoyed the 'helpfulness' amongst the 2009 classes but here's 2010's THREAD START :heartbeat
So my application is in for UMD and if anyone else wants to celebrate being done applying and sending everything
in put up a cheer!!!
for just being done with applying!!!
I wonder how long it'll take to get a YES!!! or a thank you, next time
Anyways, I heard there is usually 400-500 applications for about 150 slots... so hopefully everyone turns out okay.
Ya know---I don't think they notified all CNLs either. Seriously---it seems like only 3 or 4 CNLs mentioned that they got calls. I didn't get a call and my status hasn't changed. I'm licking my wounds and my pride is a little bruised---but I'm also starting to suspect that they didn't make their way through all of the CNLs since there should be slots for aprox 47 other people. Of course, not every applicant is on this board but it's still very low odds for only 3-4 people on this board to make it into the CNL program. I wonder if they're going in alphabetical order or by application submission date? This is psychological warfare! :) I also wonder if they're going to be working this weekend or if calls will resume on Monday? Earlier this evening, my phone rang and the caller ID said MD. With a big grin on my face, I answered the phone, only to find out that it was someone collecting for the Maryland Firefighters Association. Very disappointing! Good luck to all the CNLs and BSNs still waiting on an admission decision.
I am a CNL applicant and I did not get a call either. If it went in alphabetical order, I would have been called by now Also if it went in order of application date, I think I would have received a call today too. So, either those theories are both wrong, or I am not in
My status still says "Committee Ready" too.
I wonder how many applicants at Wens. Nov 18th BSN info session are going to get scared off once they realize the admissions office can't make up their minds for this semester. I wonder if it'll get ugly....
I really hope there is an awesome reason for this... I'd feel better if they'd just be honest and admit to: hey someone really important quit and left us high and dry, or our computers exploded, or we lost everything and now we're re-doing it last second...

Or monex12's guessed reason of the economy crashed, and getting another degree in Nursing would be awesome, so instead of the usual 250-500 applicantions we got 1000+ :angryfire which means bad news bears for me...

eh, there could be a million other reasons too, but I don't think they've even finished with the CNLs... which are more important because well, they bring in a lot more money.... and there's less slots, 50 I think
The nursing program underwent accreditation two weeks ago....preparing for that really slowed things down. They had to prepare before...then work through it the entire week it was going on. Admissions is important, but not as important as holding up their standard during accreditation. They could have gotten a few more applications but not a crazy amount that would cause such a slow down. They did not thousands or some crazy, ridiculous number. Quite honestly, the dept just had to put their focus on something really important in late oct/early nov and in turn, processing applications for ALL students, including CNL, MSN-NP and BSNs were slowed. If the slow down were to be solely based on an increase in applications for BSNs because of the economy, the NP programs would not have experienced the same slowdown because they would have been first. Those individuals already have the BSNs...it's not numbers, it's OTHER factors that have just caused this whole process to be put on the back burner.
I wouldn't bug out about numbers. I really think accreditation played a huge role in the delay. That would make a lot of sense. Hope that helps.
And I agree w. you, Roses- CNLs are not complete, only the first set of acceptances went out and they'll definitely come before us. Seems like it went from MSN--CNL--BSN. Hopefully we know before thanksgiving. It'd be nice not to think about it over break, I think my family/bf/friends/work/everyone want me to find out at this point so I stop thinking about it (and they can stop hearing about it) oh well, hope ya'll are hangin in there

apparently some BSN students were already called that they were accepted last week... theory blown
I really think it'd be faster to update the online status than to make phone calls, but then maybe that's me
You are quite right, mhinds12, this week was the culmination of our accreditation process with a new accreditation group who really put us through the ringer. We get a preliminary report today. It required massive documentation of everything in every department to get ready and more work, interviews and panels once the reviewers arrived on site (Monday). If you have ever experienced an internal or IRS audit you have some idea of what it was like. Thank heavens we don't have to go through this again for five years.
Out at my campus we were not as affected except that we had trouble getting anything out of anyone on main campus and had to listen to much anxiety from there. I am feeling badly that I did not mention this before in any thread - I did not know if I had the right to divulge it. How did you know about it? Just curious.
